BACKGROUND

The Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, Inc. (ADID) is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation formed in 1995 by Central Atlanta Progress to deliver state-legislated, city-approved Community Improvement District services to Downtown Atlanta. ADID’s mission is to keep the 220 blocks and 1.7 square miles of Downtown Atlanta clean, safe, hospitable, and vibrant. ADID’s field operations programs are focused on public safety, public space cleaning and maintenance, and supportive services outreach to unsheltered residents. POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Public Safety Ambassador - Shift Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, hospitality, and overall well-being of the Atlanta Downtown district. This position provides day-to-day leadership and management of a team of Public Safety Ambassadors during assigned shifts, aligning with ADID’s goals of creating a welcoming, vibrant, and safe environment – for everyone. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for team development, operational oversight, and fostering effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring the smooth and welcoming operation of downtown Atlanta.

  • Leadership, Coaching & Performance Management:
    • Supervise, mentor, and guide a team of Public Safety Ambassadors, focusing on hospitality and public safety.
    • Provide continuous feedback, support, and performance evaluations for team members to ensure optimal service.
    • Manage team schedules and coordinate shift assignments to maintain proper staffing levels.
    • Conduct ongoing training and development programs to equip Ambassadors with necessary skills and knowledge.
    • Address performance issues promptly and implement training programs for improvement.
    • Play a pivotal role in both initial and ongoing training of team members
  • Administration and Operational Management:
    • Enforce ADID’s policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure team compliance.
    • Conduct regular patrols to identify and resolve safety concerns, maintenance issues, or potential disruptions.
    • Respond to incidents and emergencies within the district, offering leadership and support to team members.
    • Maintain accurate incident reports and other relevant documentation.
    • Ensure the proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Foster strong working relationships with ADID stakeholders, including business owners, property managers, residents, and law enforcement.
    • Act as a liaison between ADID and the public, offering assistance and information as needed.
    • Participate in community outreach initiatives and represent ADID at pre-event meetings with stakeholders.
    • Communicate with the appropriate leadership regarding operational updates, employee concerns, and other key issues.
  • Represent Atlanta Downtown:
    • Attend pre- and post-event meetings with public safety, hospitality, and event venue partners.
    • Assist in organizing and addressing small encampment closures in a respectful and empathetic manner.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college education preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role, preferably in public safety, security, hospitality, or customer service.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to mentor and manage teams.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills and the ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to patrol on foot, bike, or trikke for extended periods.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKS ENVIRONMENT

This job requires the employee to fulfill certain physical tasks to perform their essential job functions successfully. If needed, ADID will provide reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities.

The employee will need to:

  • Regularly communicate through talking and hearing.
  • Frequently standing, walking, sitting, and reaching with their hands and arms.
  • Have good close and distance vision, along with the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work in an environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying temperature and weather conditions.
  • Maintain a professional and even-tempered demeanor while responding to any kind of stressful situation that might arise in the district.
POSITION CLASSIFICATION (this is not a remote position)

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site in-person, non-exempt position.

ADID Shift Supervisor role requires, successful completion of the ADID Ambassador Training Program, which includes:

  • Crisis Intervention Training.
  • AED, and CPR certifications.
  • Incident De- Escalation
  • Defensive Driving Certification
