This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager based in the United States.
This role sits within a high-growth advisory environment where you will lead complex state and local tax engagements across a diverse portfolio of clients. You will play a key role in shaping and expanding SALT capabilities, working across income/franchise tax, sales and use tax, credits, incentives, and multi-state compliance matters. The position combines technical depth with client-facing advisory work, requiring both strong analytical expertise and the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear, actionable guidance. You will collaborate closely with clients, helping them navigate evolving regulatory landscapes while identifying opportunities for optimization and compliance efficiency. In addition to delivery work, you will contribute to practice growth through business development and client relationship expansion. - Lead and deliver a broad range of SALT services, including multistate income/franchise tax compliance, tax research, nexus studies, and technical memorandum preparation
- Manage sales and use tax engagements, including registrations, taxability analyses, refund studies, voluntary disclosures, and audit support
- Provide expert guidance on complex tax and accounting issues, applying technical knowledge to client-specific scenarios
- Support state tax audits and assist clients in resolving disputes and ensuring compliance with evolving regulations
- Conduct tax credit and incentive analyses, including calculations and eligibility assessments across jurisdictions
- Serve as a subject matter expert within the SALT practice, staying current on legislative and regulatory developments
- Supervise, mentor, and develop junior staff, contributing to team growth and capability building
- Participate in business development activities, identifying client needs and supporting proposal development
- Collaborate with internal teams to enhance service delivery and expand advisory offerings
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly through reports, memos, and client presentations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA, JD, CMI, or Enrolled Agent strongly preferred
- 5+ years of progressive experience in State and Local Tax (SALT) consulting or advisory services
- Strong technical expertise in multistate income/franchise tax and sales & use tax
- Proven experience handling tax research, nexus studies, audits, and voluntary disclosure agreements
- Strong client service skills with a track record of building and maintaining trusted relationships
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex tax concepts
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff members
- Strong proficiency with tax software and related technology tools
- Business-minded approach with interest in practice growth and client development
- Competitive salary range: $120,000 – $165,000 USD annually
