Police Officer - Central Campus

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

• This is the non-supervisory, entry-level position for sworn lawenforcement officers, who will ensure the safety and welfare of all students,faculty, staff and visitors, maintain peace and order while enforcing Collegerules, regulations, state and federal laws, and provide law enforcementprotection and related services for the San Jacinto College Campuses (North,Central, South, Generation Park and Maritime).
  

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential JobFunctions

• Reviews reports daily for accuracy, completeness andcompliance with departmental policies and procedures; determines and monitorsfollow- up actions required; prepares and submits a variety of police reports,records and correspondence.
• Patrol San Jacinto College property to detect and detercriminal activity, identify unsafe conditions and provide a safe environmentfor members of the College community.
• Develop and maintain strong positive working relationshipswith SJCPD leadership, officers and non-sworn personnel as well as employeesand leadership of the College.
• Engage in a variety of crime prevention/reduction activitiesincluding security escorts, women’s self-defense training, securityassessments, personnel safety and property security education programs.
• Instill a strong customer service and community policingphilosophy within their assigned division of the police department.
• Conduct training programs in their areas of expertise forpolice department personnel.
• Make critical decisions through analysis of availableinformation and emerging problems to achieve effective solutions.
• Conduct criminal investigations, document investigativeprogress, coordinate investigations with other law enforcement agencies, andsubmit completed investigations for prosecution and adjudication.
• Provide first-aid to members of the College community andassist emergency medical and fire department personnel responding to collegeproperty
• Enforce State traffic laws and San Jacinto College parkingregulations.
• Provides security for special events and dignitaryprotection for high profile visitors to the College.
• Maintain police department equipment, vehicles, software,computers, uniforms and firearms.
• Act as property and evidence custodian for the policedepartment.
• Conducts background investigations and assists with hiringprocesses for new personnel.
• Maintains the highest level of professional standards
• Ensures Compliance with all San Jacinto College and PoliceDepartment policies and guidelines
• Serves as a model of excellence, and supports, promotes andemulates the College Values, mission statement, goals and objectives.

REQUIRED/MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet thefollowing criteria:

• Must be 21 years of age, and a U.S. citizen.
• Must have a current Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE

Must meet the following criteria:

• Demonstrated leadership, communication and critical decision making skills in a law enforcement environment relevant to San Jacinto College.

Education andExperience:

Meet the following experience andeducation requirements:

• A high school diploma or equivalent, and
• Successful completion of TCOLE peace officer certification

Licenses/Certifications:

Required Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid Texasdriver’s license with acceptable driver’s record.
• Hold a currentTexas Commission on Law Enforcement Basic Peace Officer ProficiencyCertification.

Note: Theduties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-sitework location during unrestricted operations with no opportunity for remotework arrangements.
