High paced environment in a community mental health outpatient facility serving both children and adults. Candidate will serve as a liaison between the medical providers, clients, and other agency staff. Candidate must have the ability to handle pressure and appropriately prioritize tasks. Speed and accuracy are a must along with organizational skills. This position is expected to be able to deal with the public, medical staff and other agency staff in a professional, knowledgeable, and courteous manner. Excellent phone and written communication skills. Must comprehend and have knowledge of HIPAA privacy guidelines concerning confidentiality.

About the Role:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in an outpatient setting plays a critical role in delivering compassionate and efficient patient care outside of the traditional inpatient hospital environment. This position focuses on assisting patients with their daily living activities, supporting nursing staff, and ensuring a safe and comfortable experience during outpatient visits. The CNA will be responsible for monitoring patient conditions, recording vital signs, and facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers. By providing attentive care and emotional support, the CNA helps improve patient outcomes and satisfaction in a fast-paced clinical environment. Ultimately, this role contributes to the smooth operation of outpatient services and the overall quality of healthcare delivery.

This position is located in St Petersburg FL however the need to travel to other outpatients sites within Pinellas County(North and South) is required.

Driving Requirements: Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and a driving record that is acceptable to Suncoast Center. A vehicle to use daily with valid FL Registration and valid FL insurance

Additional Requirements: Must be able to complete a level II background screening and local county screenings with acceptable results prior to hire and throughout employment and pre-employment drug test in compliance with Florida Law, prior to hire and throughout employment. Must be at least 21 year of age. Must be able to provide official transcripts directly from the college.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current and valid CNA certification recognized in the State of FL as required
• High school diploma or equivalent as required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Demonstrated experience or training in patient care within a healthcare setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Additional Required Qualifications:

• 2 years of Experience working in an outpatient clinic or ambulatory care environment required
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Additional certifications such as CPR or First Aid.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on patient-centered care.
• Responsibilities:
• Assists in the treatment of patients dealing with mental illness, measuring vital signs (ie: pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height) and records information directly into the EHR.
• Assists in steady flow of appointments between clients and providers and ensuring up to date treatment plans are routed to appropriate staff.
• Maintains productivity requirements equally with other CNA co-workers and work as a team player
• Updates Releases of Information to Primary Care Physicians in the EHR, for all applicable clients.
• Daily monitors, responds, directs, and documents medication line calls utilizing Microsoft Outlook and the EHR.
• Daily follows up on pending unresolved medication line issues.
• Daily responds to assigned pharmacy refill request faxes, and only forwards unworkable requests to LPNs or medical staff.
• Corresponds via phone and email frequently with medical staff, LPNs, clients, and pharmacies, regarding prescription concerns, and agency policies.
• Must be able to research client medication concerns adeptly in the EHR.
• Must be able to think critically.
• Must be able to complete agency incident reports when applicable.
• Must be able to complete deaf and hard of hearing assessments on applicable clients.
• Updates diagnosis codes in EHR based on medical provider feedback.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Assist patients with activities during outpatient visits.
• Measure and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates accurately.
• Support nursing and medical staff by providing professionally, timely, and accurate patient information and assisting with clinical procedures as needed.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all healthcare regulations and safety protocols.
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families to enhance their outpatient experience.
• Document patient care activities and observations thoroughly in electronic health records or paper charts.
• Assist with patient flow management by coordinating with front desk and clinical teams to minimize wait times.

The CNA will utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to interact compassionately with patients and collaborate effectively with healthcare team members. Attention to detail and observational skills are essential for accurately measuring vital signs and documenting patient information, ensuring high-quality care and compliance with healthcare standards. Time management and organizational skills help the CNA prepare examination rooms and manage patient flow efficiently in a busy outpatient setting. Technical proficiency with electronic health records enhances the accuracy and accessibility of patient data. Additionally, problem-solving skills and adaptability enable the CNA to respond promptly to patient needs and unexpected situations, maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
