SPS Water Sampling Technician – Manchester, NH

I-2-I Solutions is seeking a qualified Water Sampling Technician to support an ANSI/AAMI ST108 Sterile Processing Service (SPS) water-quality program at a federal healthcare facility in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The technician will be responsible for performing on-site water sample collection from Sterile Processing equipment and water systems. Routine sampling will occur approximately once per month, with additional quarterly testing and occasional re-sampling as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site water sampling in the Sterile Processing Service department in accordance with ANSI/AAMI ST108 procedures.
• Collect samples from Critical Water, Utility Water, and Steam/condensate sampling points, including RO systems, sinks, washer/disinfectors, Medivators, ultrasonic equipment, and related SPS equipment.
• Perform on-site pH measurements within 15 minutes of sample collection.
• Follow aseptic sampling procedures and facility infection-control requirements.
• Properly label, document, cool, package, and prepare samples for same-day overnight shipment to the laboratory.
• Complete chain-of-custody and sampling documentation accurately.
• Wear required PPE, including protective coveralls, shoe covers, gloves, hair covering, and other required infection-control equipment.
• Coordinate sampling visits with I-2-I project staff and facility personnel.
• Be available for occasional re-sampling requests, which may require collection within 48 hours of notification.

The Manchester requirement includes monthly Critical Water sampling and quarterly Utility Water and Steam testing, with a total of 12 routine site visits per year. The technician will perform field collection and pH testing; the remaining laboratory analysis is performed separately by the accredited laboratory.

Qualifications

• Background in laboratory science, medical laboratory science, sterile processing, environmental health, water sampling, or a related field.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and proper sample collection procedures.
• Comfortable working within a hospital Sterile Processing environment.
• Strong attention to sample identification, documentation, and chain-of-custody requirements.
• Ability to independently travel to the Manchester, NH facility for scheduled sampling.
• Reliable transportation and ability to meet scheduled collection times.
• Ability to complete I-2-I’s required ST108 sampler training and competency assessment before independent sampling.

Preferred Qualifications

• CBSPD or other Sterile Processing Technician certification.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician background.
• Previous healthcare, environmental, or water-quality sampling experience.
• Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI ST108.
• Experience working in VA, military, or other federal healthcare facilities.

Normal sampling activities are performed during the facility’s coverage hours of 7:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise authorized. The work requires strict PPE, aseptic sampling, cold-chain handling, and same-day shipment procedures.
