Description:

The Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides direct rehabilitation care in physical therapy to patients upon physician referral under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to follow physical therapy treatment plans for patients under the direction of the supervising PT.
  • Must be able to chart appropriately and timely.
  • Must be able to utilize therapy software appropriately and accurately.
  • Must exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients.
  • Must demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.
  • Must be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment.
  • Must be able to communicate and function productively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds floor to waist, lift 35 pounds waist to shoulder, lift and carry 35 pounds, and push/pull 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • May work in multiple facilities
  • Attends and participates in continuing education programs
  • Works in the department as well as throughout facility, patient homes, and community as part of the discharge process
  • Subject to frequent interruptions
  • Involved with patients, associates, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances
  • Subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, etc.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily as necessary
  • Subject to falls, bums from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday
  • Possible exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
Requirements:

Specific Requirements

  • Liaisons with patients, families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for patient needs
  • Must demonstrate good body mechanics at all times.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must be knowledgeable of physical therapy practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing physical therapy functions in the skilled nursing facility.
  • Must have the ability to implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the physical therapy department
  • Must perform proficiently in all applicable competency areas
  • Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and /or confidential information
  • Must understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail.

Education and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited program in physical therapy (ASPT).
  • Must be currently registered/licensed in the State of Washington. Must maintain an active license in good standing throughout employment.
  • One (1) year of experience in a skilled nursing or related setting preferred.
  • CPR Certification preferred. CPR certification must remain current during employment.
