This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Field Engineer based in the United States.
The Field Engineer will provide advanced technical leadership supporting the reliable operation and quality of broadcast systems across assigned sites in Montana and surrounding areas.
You will oversee installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of sophisticated broadcast equipment and infrastructure.
The role combines deep expertise in broadcast electronics, Radio Frequency (RF) systems, networking, microwave technologies, and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite solutions.
You will serve as a senior technical resource, resolving complex issues down to the component level while mentoring junior broadcast engineers and collaborating with internal and contract engineering teams.
The position also carries significant responsibility for Federal Communications Commission (FCC) compliance, safety, site reliability, documentation, and emergency response.
Regular field presence will be required, including quarterly transmitter-site visits, critical repairs, remote installations, and specialized project or training travel.

- Provide technical leadership across broadcast engineering operations, ensuring programming is delivered reliably and at a consistently high level of quality through expert installation, maintenance, operation, upgrades, and complex repairs.
- Operate, test, maintain, and optimize advanced broadcast equipment, including audio processors, transmission systems, Emergency Alert System (EAS) equipment, receivers, monitors, electrical systems, and related infrastructure.
- Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, efficiency, and signal quality, with particular attention to Internet Protocol (IP)-based systems, modern microwave technologies, and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite solutions.
- Serve as a primary technical escalation point for diagnosing and resolving complex equipment and system faults down to the component level using systematic and advanced analytical techniques.
- Collaborate with internal and contract engineers to accomplish critical technical objectives and maintain reliable operations across assigned facilities.
- Mentor junior Broadcast Engineers by providing technical guidance, knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and professional development support.
- Complete required operational and administrative documentation, including timecards, expense reports, vehicle logs, budgets, and other records accurately and within established deadlines.
- Maintain asset management, work order, and ticketing systems by documenting activities, tracking inventory, updating work status, and supporting operational continuity.
- Maintain clear and timely communication through email, phone, and messaging channels regarding operational status, project updates, technical issues, and other work-related matters.
- Maintain organized digital and physical records required for compliance, reporting, and effective site operations.
- Maintain expert knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations and ensure assigned equipment and broadcast operations remain compliant with applicable requirements.
- Champion workplace safety and injury-prevention practices, including strict adherence to lockout/tagout procedures and other applicable safety standards.
- Serve as Chief Operator or Engineer for assigned broadcast stations and fulfill associated regulatory and operational responsibilities.
- Conduct comprehensive on-site visits to each assigned transmitter location at least quarterly and provide immediate technical response for unplanned outages, emergency repairs, and other critical events.
- Maintain and troubleshoot supporting site infrastructure such as generators, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, and minor electrical or plumbing systems to help ensure complete facility functionality.
- Travel to remote locations for complex installations, critical repairs, specialized training, or project leadership as required.
- You have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical education in electronics, broadcast communications, or a related field, or at least five years of directly related professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You bring at least 6 years of demonstrated expert-level experience troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining complex broadcast electronic equipment or comparable systems.
- You have a thorough understanding of broadcast air-chain components, including complex system interactions and IP-based signal distribution.
- You possess intermediate networking knowledge, including Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), routing, and switching, with the ability to diagnose common network issues.
- You have advanced knowledge of modern microwave and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technologies and their integration into broadcast systems.
- You have deep knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) emissions, interference mitigation, and regulatory compliance and can serve as an escalation point for complex RF challenges.
- You have strong soldering and desoldering skills, including precision work on electronic components.
- You possess comprehensive knowledge of applicable broadcast-related Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and regulations.
- You can perform complex calculations associated with common broadcast engineering formulas.
- You are highly proficient with broadcast test equipment such as Volt-Ohm-Meters (VOMs), oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
- You are proficient with Microsoft Office and other commonly used software applications.
- You can systematically diagnose multiple highly complex technical problems and develop innovative, practical solutions.
- You demonstrate strong judgment and strategic thinking, with the ability to translate abstract or complex problems into practical technical solutions.
