What the position entails:

The work you do as a Survey Crew Chief helps bring projects to life, from critical infrastructure and transportation corridors to energy and community development initiatives across Western Canada. We're looking for a Survey Crew Chief to join our team in Fort St. John, BC. In this role, you'll lead field operations, work alongside skilled professionals, and contribute to projects that leave a lasting impact. You have strong technical field skills, confidence operating survey equipment, and an appreciation for working outdoors while delivering results safely and efficiently.

What you will do:

  • Manage and perform field survey work with the support of Survey Assistants.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.
  • Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
  • Provide guidance, training and mentorship to Survey Assistants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
  • Proactively participate in and support the GeoVerra safety program.
  • Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:

  • Diploma/Degree in a post-secondary program related to surveying, geomatics or civil engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic).
  • Experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Survey Crew Chief role completing construction and legal surveys is required
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.
  • The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
  • An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
  • A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract; and
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace

Job Conditions:

  • Out-of-town work (possible shift work).
  • Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Night shift may be required.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
