Newly Enhanced, ED-Aligned Compensation

Carilion Clinic is investing in emergency psychiatry with a compensation structure designed to recognize the pace, acuity, and specialized clinical judgment required in the emergency department.

ED physician-aligned base rate: Higher base hourly compensation commensurate with Emergency Department physicians

Substantial shift differentials: Additional compensation for weekend and weeknight coverage

Flexible practice model: Position may include virtual telepsychiatry coverage, with additional hourly incentive for in-person emergency department coverage

Conduct psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments in the emergency department

Provide crisis intervention and stabilization

Work Experience

MD or DO from an accredited institution

Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry

Experience in emergency psychiatry, crisis intervention, or similar settings
