Description:

Phlebotomist

The Phlebotomist will play a vital role in supporting the medical needs of our patients during their journey to recovery. The primary responsibility will be to collect blood specimens for diagnostic testing while ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for patients. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to patient care, and a compassionate approach towards individuals in recovery.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

· Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures on patients in a recovery center setting, demonstrating a gentle and reassuring approach.

· Collect blood specimens according to established procedures and ensure accurate labeling, documentation, and recordkeeping.

· Collaborate with the medical team to determine the appropriate testing requirements for each patient.

· Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during the blood collection process and respond promptly and appropriately.

· Educate patients about the purpose and importance of blood tests, providing clear instructions and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.

· Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control protocols and disposing of hazardous materials appropriately.

· Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure the privacy and dignity of each individual during the phlebotomy process.

· Coordinate with the laboratory to ensure timely and accurate transport of specimens, maintaining appropriate storage conditions.

· Support and assist other healthcare professionals in the recovery center as needed.

· Stay updated with current phlebotomy techniques, safety protocols, and relevant industry trends.

· Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.

· Proven experience as a phlebotomist, preferably in a healthcare or recovery center setting.

· Sound knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, equipment, and best practices.

· Familiarity with medical terminology and an understanding of laboratory testing procedures.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with individuals in recovery.

· Compassionate and non-judgmental approach when working with patients who may be experiencing emotional or physical challenges.

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection, labeling, and documentation.

· Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a fast-paced and potentially challenging environment.

· Basic computer skills for data entry and electronic medical record documentation.

· Current certification as a phlebotomist.

· Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and handle confidential information appropriately.

· Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with advancements in the field.

· Ability to work as a team member and have management, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work under stressful conditions and be flexible in relation to department needs.

· Ability to deal with a variety of adults with a range of personalities and problems.

· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

· Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards.

· Demonstrates Proficiency in Verbal & Written Communication Skills.

· Knowledge of State & Federal Statutes Regarding Patient Confidentiality Laws.

· Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies and Procedures.

· Knowledge of Workplace Violence.

· Knowledge of Corporate Integrity & Compliance Program.

· Knowledge of current utilized technology

· Familiar with community resources

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, Supplemental.
