Job Description


Position Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Transitions House Manager, the Resident Assistant (RA) provides
dedicated one-on-one monitoring for residents with complex mental health needs. Unlike standard care roles, your primary focus is the safety and emotional stabilization of a specific individual, ensuring a therapeutic environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

1:1 Therapeutic Supervision
: Maintain constant line-of-sight supervision for assigned residents to ensure safety and prevent self-harm or elopement.

·
Crisis Intervention
: Recognize early signs of escalating behavior and utilize de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm environment.

·
ADL Support
: Assist residents with personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming while encouraging independence.

·
Medication Administration
: Safely administer medications according to CBRF regulations and physician orders.

·
Behavioral Documentation
: Maintain detailed, objective logs of the resident's mood, behaviors, and progress toward treatment goals.

·
Collaborative Care
: Communicate effectively with the clinical team, case managers, and families regarding the resident’s status.

·
Community Integration: Transport or assist with transportation to and from medical appointments and community-based recreational activities.

Education and Experience:
Experience:
1 year in a residential treatment setting is preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. An Associate's Degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred.

Qualifications:

Must possess or obtain within a specific timeframe the required certifications, including Medication Administration, Fire Safety, First Aid, and Standard Precautions (specific to Wisconsin CBRFs).

Valid Wisconsin driver's license.

·
Background Check: Ability to pass TB test and caregiver background checks.

Work Environment:
This facility operates 24/7/365 and requires availability for various shifts (AM/PM/Overnight), including rotating weekends and holidays.

Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Duties:

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication
Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria in order to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure, copy, record, and transcribe data and information. Ability to classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data. Ability to counsel and mediate. Ability to persuade, convince, and train others.

Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while performing duties. Ability to drive. Ability to conduct fieldwork outside of the office.
Ability to observe and evaluate conditions in home and community environments, with or without reasonable accommodations in order to make judgements.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including computer, keyboard, telephone, fax machine, calculator/adding machine, and photocopier. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing movements requiring moderate skill, such as typing. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration. Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
