Sr Health Physicist

This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead radiation safety and health physics initiatives within a highly regulated environmental and waste management environment. You will serve as a technical expert supporting radiological safety programs, waste treatment operations, and compliance efforts across multiple facilities. The position combines technical problem-solving, field support, regulatory interaction, and strategic program development. Accountabilities:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain radiation safety policies, procedures, and protocols aligned with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for radiological safety, including dose assessments, site characterization, radiological modeling, instrumentation, and data validation.
  • Support waste treatment and disposal operations by evaluating radiological waste profiles and advising on safe acceptance and handling procedures.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies to ensure ongoing compliance with environmental, health, safety, and radiological standards.
  • Assist facilities with dosimetry programs, radiation monitoring initiatives, and exposure control strategies to protect personnel and the environment.
  • Conduct radiological audits, surveys, and sampling activities while providing guidance to operational and field teams.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response efforts involving radioactive materials and radiological incidents.
  • Partner with engineering, quality, supply chain, and operations teams to strengthen radiation safety practices and operational efficiency.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Radiological Health, Engineering, Physical Science, or a related field.
  • 4–7 years of professional experience in health physics, radiation safety, or radiological program management.
  • Strong knowledge of radiation protection regulations, compliance standards, and environmental health and safety practices.
  • Hands-on experience with radiation protection instrumentation, calibration requirements, and radiological surveys.
  • Familiarity with radiation modeling and simulation software such as RESRAD, MCNP, GoldSim, MicroShield, or CAP88.
  • Ability to review analytical and radiological data for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience supporting field operations and providing technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Preferred certifications include Certified Health Physicist (CHP), NRRPT certification, or DOT Class 7 shipper qualification.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
