Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Microbiologist to support the Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network. This role involves performing microbiological and molecular testing on clinical specimens for the detection, isolation, and identification of bacterial and fungal pathogens. The position requires adherence to CLIA regulations, quality assurance standards, and laboratory safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform microbiological and molecular testing including culture, biochemical testing, PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
Isolate and identify microorganisms from clinical specimens.
Extract and analyze nucleic acids using manual and automated methods.
Evaluate, interpret, validate, and report laboratory results.
Maintain laboratory records, specimen tracking systems, and testing documentation.
Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities in compliance with CLIA standards.
Monitor laboratory inventory and order supplies as needed.
Assist with data analysis and preparation of laboratory, epidemiological, and statistical reports.
Maintain competency in all assigned testing areas and support cross-training initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of microbiology, molecular biology, and clinical laboratory testing procedures.
Experience with PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, WGS, and microbial identification techniques.
Familiarity with CLIA regulations, quality assurance, and laboratory safety practices.
Ability to analyze data, troubleshoot testing issues, and prepare technical reports.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently in a high-complexity laboratory environment.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in public health, clinical, or antimicrobial resistance laboratories.
Knowledge of bacterial and fungal pathogen identification.
Experience with proficiency testing and quality management programs.
Work Environment:
This position involves handling potentially hazardous biological specimens and requires strict adherence to laboratory safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
