Job Responsibilities

We currently have an opening for an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer in our Richmond office. This role involves the analysis, design, testing, and commissioning of motor-control electronic systems and PCB hardware for linear actuator products. You will work closely with the Research & Development, Firmware, Mechanical, and Product teams to deliver reliable, manufacturable control systems from concept through production.

Key responsibilities include PCB design, component evaluation, product testing, and supporting in-house assembly and quality-control activities. You will also prepare technical documentation, collaborate with overseas manufacturing partners, and contribute to the development of new actuator controllers and related electronic products.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop PCBs and flexible PCBs (FPC) for a variety of products
  • Perform circuit analysis, schematic design, layout reviews, and design validation
  • Conduct product testing, debugging, and commissioning of new and updated control systems
  • Build and operate test setups for stress, thermal, and reliability evaluations
  • Support in-house assembly, troubleshooting, and quality-control activities
  • Select and evaluate components for performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
  • Prepare engineering documentation, including specifications, test procedures, and production packages
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and product teams throughout the full product lifecycle
  • Work with overseas manufacturing partners on DFM, prototyping, and production readiness
  • Contribute to the development of new products and the continuous improvement of existing ones
  • Act as Product Owner for developing, procuring, and launching electronic products

Required Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with PCB CAD tools and hardware product development
  • Strong understanding of the full product development lifecycle, from requirements to production release
  • Good understanding of motor control systems and their associated challenges
  • Methodical, organized approach to testing, documentation, revision control, and traceability
  • Strong time management, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to work independently and with both local and overseas teams

Nice To Have

  • Proficiency in Altium Designer for PCB design
  • Familiarity with Microchip MCUs
  • Embedded programming experience, including C for microcontrollers
  • Experience designing or working with test jigs / automated test setups
  • Experience with documentation standards and version control tools such as SVN
  • Systems engineering experience
  • Familiarity with root-cause analysis methods
  • Understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC considerations
  • Knowledge of North American manufacturing standards and certifications
  • Familiarity with communication and control technologies such as:
  • RF
  • Wi-Fi
  • Thread / Matter
  • Bluetooth
  • CANBUS
  • MODBUS

The pay range for this role is:
60,000 - 100,000 CAD per year(richmond, bc)
