Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Shovel and Drill Supervisor is responsible for coordinating maintenance activities, supporting maintenance planning and scheduling, and driving equipment reliability initiatives for the mine’s loading and drilling fleet. This role works closely with maintenance supervisors, planners, reliability personnel, operations teams, contractors, and OEM representatives to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of hydraulic shovels and production drills.
This position provides technical leadership and execution support for maintenance programs, equipment performance improvement efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Shovel and Drill Supervisor plays a key role in maximizing equipment availability, reducing downtime, and supporting safe and cost-effective mining operations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintenance Coordination: Coordinate daily maintenance activities for the shovel and drill fleet to support equipment availability and production requirements.
• Work Prioritization: Support maintenance supervisors in prioritizing breakdown repairs, corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, and major component replacements.
• Maintenance Execution: Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures and OEM recommendations.
• Equipment Monitoring: Track equipment availability, reliability, and maintenance performance metrics to identify operational risks and improvement opportunities.
• Reliability Improvement: Analyze equipment performance trends and maintenance history to identify recurring failures and reliability improvement opportunities.
• Failure Analysis: Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and Equipment Condition Assessments (ECA) to identify corrective actions and prevent repeat failures.
• Planning Support: Assist maintenance planners in developing work packages, maintenance plans, and resource requirements for planned maintenance activities.
• Parts and Resource Coordination: Verify parts availability and coordinate maintenance resources to ensure planned work is prepared for execution.
• Backlog Management: Support work order prioritization and maintenance backlog management to optimize maintenance efficiency and equipment uptime.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to supervisors, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with operations, engineering, reliability teams, contractors, and OEM representatives to support fleet performance objectives.
• Communication: Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance planning meetings and communicate equipment performance, maintenance concerns, and improvement initiatives to management.
• Safety Leadership: Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: Support implementation of maintenance best practices, maintenance strategies, standard operating procedures, and training initiatives.
• Cost and Performance Management: Drive improvements in equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and maintenance cost control.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Technical degree, trade certification, or equivalent mining maintenance experience.
• Minimum 5–7 years of mining maintenance experience.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining Caterpillar MD6310 Drills.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining Caterpillar MD6420 Drills.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining Hitachi EX5600-7 Hydraulic Shovels.
• Strong understanding of heavy mining equipment maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting techniques, and component management practices.
• Ability to analyze equipment performance data, maintenance trends, and reliability metrics.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced mining environment.
• Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team-building abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Preferred
• Experience in open-pit mining operations.
• Experience coordinating maintenance activities, maintenance planning, scheduling, or supervisory functions.
• Experience with SAP maintenance management systems.
• Knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling processes.
• Familiarity with Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles.
• Previous supervisory or lead technician experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Work in an active open-pit mining environment with exposure to heavy mobile equipment and mining operations.
• Regularly walk and work on uneven terrain, gravel surfaces, and mine site work areas.
• Climb ladders, stairs, and access systems on large mining equipment.
• Work at heights and around elevated work platforms.
• Frequently inspect equipment in field environments and maintenance facilities.
• Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heat, cold, and changing weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform physical inspections of equipment.
• Work in a combination of field and office environments.
• May be required to work extended hours, rotating schedules, or respond to operational priorities as needed.
