Description:

The Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) provides professional clinical counseling services to individuals, couples, and families. This role focuses on diagnosing and treating mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders through the lens of family systems theory, with an emphasis on substance use and trauma recovery. The LMFT establishes a professional clinical culture and promotes ethical standards to maintain a welcoming environment that reflects the Tribe’s culture, vision, and values. This position reports to the Behavioral Health Manager and is responsible for maintaining high clinical standards and accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct clinical counseling services, including intake assessments, crisis intervention, and individual, group, and family therapy sessions in an office setting.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans based on clinical diagnoses and patient goals.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions focused on substance use disorders, mental health recovery, and prevention.
  • Maintain comprehensive and timely clinical records in the EHR system, including progress notes, discharge summaries, and required clinical documentation.
  • Utilize evidence-based modalities tailored to the unique needs of the Native and non-Native populations served.
  • Participate in weekly clinical staffing meetings to review complex cases and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
  • Provide monthly statistical and clinical reports to the Behavioral Health Manager regarding caseload volume and patient outcomes.
  • Assist in community outreach and education, providing presentations on mental health awareness and prevention to local schools and organizations as needed.
  • Maintain professional licensure through continuous education and adhere to the ethical standards set by the Oklahoma LMFT Board.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, pharmacists, and external social service agencies to ensure a coordinated, "whole-health" approach to patient recovery and wellness.
  • Provide clinical supervision or mentorship to behavioral health interns and license-eligible staff as directed by the Behavioral Health Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of family systems theory and psychotherapeutic techniques for diverse populations.
  • Proficient in diagnosing mental and emotional disorders using current diagnostic criteria.
  • Strong understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regarding confidentiality and the release of behavioral health information.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build therapeutic rapport and manage conflict resolution.
  • Competence in utilizing evidence-based treatment modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to address complex trauma and addiction.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency with an understanding of American Indian traditions, history, and community dynamics.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions during crisis situations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain therapeutic rapport with a diverse patient population.
  • Proficiency in conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments and diagnostic screenings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for professional clinical documentation.
  • Skill in de-escalating high-stress situations and managing behavioral health crises.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms, and the ability to travel locally for community events or jurisdictional meetings.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field required.
  • Valid license as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of Oklahoma required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing direct clinical therapy, specifically with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods during therapy sessions and documentation tasks.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required for operating computer systems and documenting patient records.
  • Visual acuity necessary for reviewing clinical data and monitoring patient interactions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful completion of applicable tribal drug test.
  • Successful completion of applicable tribal background check.
  • Must pass background investigation for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
  • Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis (Tdap), Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), and Varicella vaccinations, with proof of previous vaccinations or proof of positive titer.
