Job Description
American Community Bank & Trust (ACBT), the largest locally owned bank in McHenry County, is seeking a Loan Auditor! In this role you will independently audit loan operations across consumer and commercial portfolios to ensure regulatory compliance, policy adherence, documentation accuracy, and process integrity — including file reviews, daily checkbacks, reconciliations, and HMDA/CRA and fair-lending monitoring. An ideal candidate is detail-oriented, maintains professional independence, and has experience in loan documentation, loan operations, audit, or compliance within a financial institution.
What you’ll do:
- Maintain a risk-based loan audit/QC plan and perform pre-funding, post-closing, and booked-loan file reviews for documentation, approvals, collateral/perfection, and policy compliance.
- Perform daily checkbacks from exception reports, route errors for correction, re-verify completion, and maintain review logs.
- Conduct specialty reviews (construction draw controls, letter of credit reviews, cash-secured loan testing, swap loan balancing).
- Reconcile LAS deferred fees/costs, in-process GL accounts, and loan non-post items; produce monthly documented audit summaries.
- Review collateral reports, resolve collateral exceptions, and validate completion.
- Review weekly loan rate changes for authorization and system accuracy; prepare documentation for imaging/retention/indexing.
- Identify HMDA/CRA reportable loans; maintain tracking logs and input data; prepare monthly CRA summaries and fair-lending monitoring and analysis.
- Manage adverse action notices for non-originated consumer and commercial applications and validate borrower disclosures.
- Document findings, issue concise reports with corrective actions, track remediation, perform follow-up testing, and escalate high-risk/recurring issues.
- Support regulatory exams, internal/external audits, procedure updates, control enhancements, and training while maintaining independence.
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (banking preferred). Relevant compliance and/or industry training preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in commercial and consumer loan documentation/collateral review, loan operations, compliance, audit, or QC at a financial institution.
- Familiar with core lending/servicing systems and loan origination platforms.
- Strong attention to detail, clear written and verbal reporting, sound ethical judgment, and ability to collaborate with stakeholders while maintaining independence.
- Able to lift up to 20 lbs, work primarily on-site during business hours with occasional travel and occasional after-hours work to meet deadlines.
Performance measures:
- Timely, accurate completion of audits, checkbacks, and remediation follow-ups.
- Quality and completeness of workpapers and reports.
- Compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Professional communications, collaboration, attendance, and conduct.
