Job Description
South Puget Sound Community College(SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified candidate to fill a vacancy as a part-time Fiscal Technician 2 - Financial & Insurance Coordinator in the Dental department in our Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary program.
This position supports the College’s mission to support student success in post-secondary academic transfer and workforce education that meets the needs of the South Sound region. This is seen in supporting efforts to implement, administer, and coordinate instruction with students, staff, and the public on the content, policies, procedures, and activities of the Allied Health programs, in addition to ensuring compliance with all state and federal accrediting bodies.

The Financial & Insurance Coordinator supports the daily operations of the dental clinic by managing patient financial services and dental insurance coordination. This position ensures accurate billing, timely insurance reimbursement, and clear communication with patients regarding treatment costs and financial options. Works closely with Clinic Business Manager and frequent interactions with students, faculty and staff of the Dental Assisting program.
Financial Coordination- Explain treatment plans, costs, and patient financial responsibilities
- Establish and monitor patient payment plans Maintain accurate financial records and patient account documentation
- Assist patients with financial questions and resolving account concerns
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to treatment
- Submit, monitor, and track insurance claims daily
- Follow up on unpaid, delayed, or denied claims and resolve discrepancies
- Communicate with insurance companies to clarify coverage and payment issues
- Provide patients with clear estimates of insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs
- Accurately post insurance and patient payments
- Monitor accounts receivable and aging reports
- Generate patient billing statements and manage collections processes
- Reconcile daily financial transactions and assist with deposits
- Prepare periodic financial reports for clinic leadership
- Work collaboratively with Clinic Business manager to ensure accurate coding & billing,
- Identify patients with financial concerns and coordinate solutions prior to appointments
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, FERPA (if applicable), and institutional policies
- Support a positive, professional patient experience
- Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and insurance processes
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and practice management software
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based clinical and educational environment
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree
- Experience in office administration, billing, or financial coordination
- Experience with electronic dental or healthcare records systems
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and working with diverse populations

Conditions of Part-Time Employment
Non-permanent employees under the provisions of WAC 357-19-435 are only authorized to work up to a maximum of 18 months from the original date of hire. Employment with the college could end at any time.
