Job Description
The Registered Dietitian (RD) II counsels individuals and groups on nutrition, healthy eating habits and goal setting. The RD II is responsible for providing nutrition and breastfeeding education to WIC participants and/or TrueCare patients and assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of core nutrition components to ensure quality services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide nutritional screening and assessment of patients/participants for appropriate nutrition intervention per established policies and procedures.
- Provide counseling and guidance on nutrition, breastfeeding, and health related issues to all intervention levels of participants.
- Document nutrition education contacts and plans in the WIC MIS system.
- Screen for eligibility and participation in WIC.
- Provide patients/participants with appropriate referrals to community programs.
- Assist in the planning and development of nutrition and breastfeeding classes.
- Teach nutrition, health, and breastfeeding education classes in accordance with established lesson plans.
- Prescribe appropriate WIC food instrument package and educate participants on shopping for WIC approved foods and using food instruments.
- Participate in nutrition and breastfeeding promotion activities.
- Assist with training nutrition assistants, new employees and interns in basic WIC activities and service.
- Consult with physicians and health care staff to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of TrueCare patients, as appropriate.
- Develop nutrition care plans and monitor patient response to care plan developed, document in the electronic health record system, as appropriate.
- Advise patients and their families on nutritional principles, diet modifications, food selection and preparation.
- Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition services, nutrition sciences, dietetics, or related field.
- Completion of a Dietetic Internship or other training program accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Current Dietitian Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Knowledge of normal, therapeutic and community nutrition.
- Knowledge and experience in nutrition education and interventions.
- Computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of WIC program and maternal child health.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Familiarity with electronic health/medical record systems.
