Job Description
Job Summary
To build and repair all types, sizes, and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools, gauges, and dies. Assemble and try out complete tools and dies, trouble shoot tooling for repairs and modifications.
Responsibility
- Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
- Welds parts as required.
- Determines specifications for inspection of work, using precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspection before during and after machining.
- Performs hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies. Uses hand tools of the trade.
- Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Tests dies to produce a product to specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and correcting same.
- Assists maintenance and set-up personnel in the repair and maintenance of tooling and equipment.
- Repair variety of dies and cavities meeting accuracy requirements determining techniques and making decisions on metals, allowances, mechanism detail, fit and assembly.
- Attention to detail in performing work, checking work, and documenting to assure quality, under the supervision of the designated group lead.
- Works in a safe and efficient manner with good housekeeping practices. Maintain die cast dies for back up.
- Prepare dies/cavities for shipment to outside tool vendor; which includes removing die cavities from retainer whenever possible.

Academic/Educational Requirements
· High School Diploma or Equivalency (Preferred)
· Minimum 3 years of experience in tooling trade (Preferred)
· Some technical training, including basic blueprint reading, shop math (Preferred)
Required Skills/Experience
- Ability to read prints.
- Familiarity with gauges and layouts
- Ability to troubleshoot minor tool problems.
- Basic Welding knowledge
- Ability to prepare reports of repair activities as required.
- Ability to operate toolroom equipment, welding equipment, various hand tools, hydraulic presses
- Troubleshoot dimensional issues; read prints; layouts and gauges to determine proper repairs.
Working Conditions
· The position requires the employee to frequently stand and walk, bend, use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms.
· The employee must be able to push/pull with force estimated at 100 lbs. to maneuver parts into place. Grip force required up to 100 lbs.
· The employee is occasionally required to sit.
· The employee must be able to enter, egress and traverse areas inside and outside of machinery, and must be able to climb ladders for purposes of inspection.
· Position requires climbing and balancing around and on top of machines while simultaneously using various hand tools.
· The employee must have full range of motion necessary for moving in and out of all positions.
· Employee must have good sensation essential to gauge heat exposure when working around hot equipment, dies or furnaces.
· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. or more.
· This position works with safety critical products, therefore are required to have the ability to differentiate colors that are critical to job performance.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat in the plant environment.
· The noise level ranges from low (office environment) to moderate (general plant environment) to high (near machines).

· 40 hours per week
· In office, Production area as required.
· Monday to Friday
· Please note: All schedules and changes to working hours must be approved by the department manager. Schedule is subject to change based on discretion of department manager.
