The Collaboration Technologies Specialist’s role is to administer, monitor, support and maintain efficient, effective and secure information systems and operations systems in support of the core organizational functions. This individual will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve systems issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. This individual will also analyze and resolve end user service requests, and issues, in a timely and accurate manner.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain enterprise directory services and supporting server infrastructure. Manage user account life cycle, both on-premise and in the cloud.
- Manage DNS/DHCP system, by adding/removing DHCP and DNS entries in the UX interface.
- Maintains multiple mission critical systems (ensures systems are operational, functional, available, recoverable, optimized and monitored), including, but not limited to, e-mail, LMS, SSO, VMWare, VDI, collaboration, print and backup servers, and their associated operating systems and software.
- Perform file system and application configuration and management.
- Plan and implement server application upgrades, maintenance fixes, security fixes and vendor-supplied patches.
- Monitors server backups to ensure they are completed according to policy.
- Ensure regular server OS patching is performed manually or via the WSUS server.
- Provides project leadership (planning, evaluating, coordination, support and implementing new technologies and upgrades). Provides coordination, guidance and support to clients so that they are able to respond to their business objectives and requirements.
- Specifies the hardware and software requirements for learning management and groupware systems. Ensures compliance with standards. Recommends hardware purchases as needed.
- Check help desk database for entries on server and administration issues; prioritize and respond to help desk tickets or escalate to appropriate individuals. Identifies, analyzes, advises and/or resolves complex problems for clients in a timely manner
- Promotes effective use of technology by identifying and initiating improvements and measures, including automation of routine tasks.
- Checks and writes technical documentation for distribution to clients.

EDUCATION:
- Grade 12 plus two (2) year post-secondary diploma in computer science or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years’ related experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
- Strong system administration (Linux/Unix or Windows) at the command-line level
- Experience with running and maintaining scripting (PowerShell, Puppet, Chef, etc.)
- Ability to deal with instructors, coworkers, and outside clients/vendors with courtesy and tact
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to coordinate, plan and organize work and work with competing deadlines
- Ability to exercise considerable independent action
- Ability to learn new technology quickly and relay it to others
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex problems
- Ability to carry out technical research
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex systems
