Job Description

Description:

Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract (6-month engagement with potential to extend to 1 year)

Location: Hybrid, Seattle, WA (on-site 2 to 3 days per week)

Compensation: $115,000 to $130,000 per year, annualized, plus benefits

Note: This position is part of COLOR’s staffing program. You’ll work full-time on a client engagement while being employed by COLOR. We’re looking to fill this role as soon as possible.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Motion Designer to join the in-house global video team of a leading enterprise technology company. You’ll both design and animate, turning written scripts into style frames and storyboards, then bringing them to life with polished 2D motion, vector-based graphics, and icon-driven animation that explains complex ideas clearly. Compositing skills are a big plus, and the ability to handle basic video edits is a real bonus. You’ll report to the team’s Executive Producer and work independently day to day, while collaborating closely with producers, editors, and designers. This isn’t a management role, but you’ll provide light oversight and guidance to more junior motion designers on the team. It’s a great fit for a motion designer who brings strong design instincts, takes pride in craft, and looks for ways to make the work better than the brief.

Work Environment / Culture

You’ll join a collaborative in-house video team producing content for a global audience of customers, partners, and employees. This is a hybrid role: you’ll work on-site at the team’s Seattle studio 2 to 3 days per week and remotely the rest of the week, during Pacific Time business hours. The schedule mostly follows business hours, with occasional extended days around major launches and company events. This is a desk-based role.

Requirements:

What You’ll Do

  • Translate written scripts into designed style frames and storyboards that set the visual direction for each piece
  • Design and animate polished 2D motion graphics, including vector-based illustration, iconography, kinetic typography, and data visualization
  • Create icon-driven animations and visual systems that make technical concepts clear, engaging, and easy to follow
  • Composite motion graphics with live-action footage and other elements, including keying, tracking, masking, and cleanup, so the final result looks seamless
  • Execute work that aligns with established brand guidelines while bringing fresh creative ideas that elevate it beyond baseline execution
  • Own motion projects from concept through final delivery, managing your own timelines across multiple requests
  • Collaborate with producers, editors, writers, and designers to integrate motion into videos, social content, presentations, and event materials
  • Support the team with basic video edits when needed, such as assembling cuts, updating versions, or integrating motion into edited pieces
  • Provide light oversight and mentorship to a junior motion designer, reviewing work and sharing feedback and techniques
  • Build and maintain reusable templates, animation libraries, and organized project files that help the team work faster
  • Respond to feedback quickly and constructively, iterating efficiently through review rounds
  • Prepare deliverables to spec for web, social, broadcast, and presentation formats

What You Bring

  • Typically 5 to 10 years of professional motion design experience
  • A strong reel and portfolio showing both design and animation, with an emphasis on 2D motion, vector graphics, and icon-based work
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Strong design fundamentals in typography, layout, color, and composition
  • Compositing experience in After Effects, such as keying, tracking, rotoscoping, and integrating graphics with live-action footage
  • Experience developing style frames and storyboards from scripts
  • Experience working within brand guidelines while still pushing creative ideas forward
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver on tight timelines
  • Clear, collaborative communication and comfort giving and receiving feedback

Nice-to-Haves

  • Basic video editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro or similar (a real plus)
  • Illustration or character design and animation skills
  • Experience explaining technical or B2B topics through motion
  • Experience in enterprise technology, software, or cybersecurity
  • Experience mentoring or guiding other designers
  • Familiarity with Figma or Lottie animation for web

Benefits Snapshot

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus access to an Employee Assistance Program
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick time, and company holidays
  • Additional perks such as phone plan reimbursement, wellness reimbursement, donation-matching
