Job Description

About the role

We're looking for a Junior Fullstack Engineer who is building their foundation and wants to grow quickly alongside experienced teammates. You'll work in one of two engineering squads, Gateway or Connect, shipping real features across our React web app and Node backend that small businesses rely on every day. You'll have a dedicated mentor, well-scoped work, and plenty of room to learn how a world-class production SaaS platform is built, run, and scaled.

Gateway owns the front door to Quo: how businesses sign up, choose a plan, pay, verify their business for compliance, and bring their existing phone numbers with them. You'll work on everything from the sign-up, plan, and checkout experiences customers see to the systems behind them, like billing and subscriptions, pricing and trials, taxes, account and trust verification, and number porting.

Connect makes Quo part of the rest of a small business's tech stack. You'll help build and maintain integrations with tools like HubSpot and Salesforce, including the in-app experiences customers use to connect and manage them, and contribute to Quo's public API and webhooks, which let customers send messages, sync contacts, and log calls and messages in the other apps they use every day.

Some of the things you’ll do:

  • Spend most of your time writing, testing, and shipping code in TypeScript, across our React frontend and Node backend.
  • Build user-facing features in our web app, working from designs in Figma and our shared component library.
  • Own well-scoped tasks end to end: understand the customer problem behind a ticket, build and test the change, and confirm it works once it's live.
  • Investigate and fix bugs reported by customers and our support team.
  • Review your teammates' code and learn from their reviews of yours.
  • Write tests and documentation alongside your code, so the next person can pick up where you left off.
  • Use AI coding tools to move faster while maintaining personal growth.
  • Work closely with your mentor and squads, ask questions early, and grow toward owning larger pieces of work.

Technical stack and tools:

  • Our web app is built with React and TypeScript, using GraphQL and Relay for data fetching.
  • We build UI with Vite, Vanilla Extract, and React Aria, and develop components in Storybook.
  • We test with Vitest and React Testing Library.
  • Our backend is built on Node using TypeScript.
  • Our architecture is event-driven microservices with RabbitMQ at the center, with a federated GraphQL layer.
  • We use a variety of databases for different purposes: Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Redis.
  • Observability and delivery tools.
  • Other tools: Claude Code and other AI coding tools, Linear, Notion, Slack, and Figma.

About you

  • You have at least 2+ years of software engineering experience in formal, full-time work environments
  • You've built web interfaces with React and TypeScript
  • You've written backend code, such as APIs or services, using Node and TypeScript
  • You enjoy working across the stack, from building interfaces people use to the APIs and data behind them.
  • You have a solid grasp of programming fundamentals, including HTML and CSS, data structures, APIs, databases, and writing tests, and you're eager to deepen them.
  • You display a strong sense of ownership of your work by monitoring performance, usage, and errors after it ships.
  • You're curious. You seek to understand the "why" behind things so you can better plan and build the "how."
  • You use AI tools in your work and think critically about what they produce.
  • You care about the people who use what you build. You practice empathy and thoughtfulness as you weigh trade-offs.
  • You strive for code that's readable, testable, and maintainable, and you leave things better than you found them.
