POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Driver
Department: Transportation/Adult Day Center
Reports to: Adult Day Services Director
Position Information: PRN (As Needed) Hours available,
Essential Functions
1. Transport campus clients, residents and tenants to and from Jennings Center for Older Adults. Escort and provide assistance door to door and to the schools as necessary. If an Adult Day Center client has dementia, he or she must be received at home by a caregiver. If no one is home, driver will bring the client back to the Adult Day Center.
2. Transport clients, children, residents and tenants on scheduled program trips.
3. Perform pre-trip inspections daily including, tires, directional signals and brakes. Complete the Inspection Sheet as required.
4. Refill the gas tank; record date and amount of gas on record form; and record the time a credit card was procured and returned.
5. Safely operate vehicle wheelchair lift; fasten passenger seat belts and secure wheelchair lock-down system.
6. Enforce “no smoking and no eating on the bus” policies.
7. Follow Vehicle Emergency Policies and Procedures.
8. Make a timely report of any unusual behavior or problems with passengers.
9. Report to supervisor if any passenger was not picked up as arranged.
10. Report any vehicle mechanical problems or damage on trip sheet. Immediately report any property damage, vehicle accident, or client incident immediately to the supervisor.
11. Maintain cleanliness of vehicles including sweeping inside and emptying trash containers.
12. Attend in-service training programs as required.
13. Follow Resident Rights policies at all times.
14. Follow Ohio Code for safe driving of vehicles used to transport clients, residents, and tenants.
15. Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
16. Relate to clients, residents, tenants, children, family members, school staff, Jennings staff & the public in a friendly, courteous, respectful & helpful manner.
17. Understand and comply with Jennings Center for Older Adults’ Corporate Compliance Program.
18. Know and understand the Mission of Jennings Center for Older Adults and exemplify our values: Respect, Compassion, Community, Discovery of Potential and Celebration of Life.
19. Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must have 2 years of licensed driving experience.
- Must have a High School diploma or GED.
- Must have completed CPR/First Aid training.
- Must possess a safe driving record in accordance with current insurance underwriting standards – no more than 4 active points on the record.
- Has the physical ability necessary to transport physically impaired persons, including persons in wheelchairs.
- Has the ability to learn individualized transfer and assistance techniques. Has received transfer technique instruction prior to transporting participants.
- Has the interpersonal skill necessary to work with older adults, children, family members, and staff.
- Exercises excellent judgment regarding vehicle operations and client safety.
- DRIVE training is required within 1 year prior to hire or 3 months following hire.
- PAT must be completed within 6 months prior to hire or within the first year of employment.
- Defensive Driving Course is required within 1 year prior to hire or 3 months following hire.
