Job Description

Description:

The Payroll Accountant supports the accounting and reconciliation of payroll-related financial activity. This position prepares payroll journal entries, reconciles related accounts and bank activity, assists with labor and job-cost corrections, and coordinates the exchange of information between Payroll and Accounting.

Requirements:
  • Prepare and post payroll-related timesheet entries using reports and information from the HRIS system (Paylocity).
  • Reconcile payroll expenses, liabilities, deductions, taxes, benefits, and other payroll-related accounts.
  • Reconcile payroll deposits, withdrawals, and other funding activity to payroll reports and bank records.
  • Review payroll accounting activity for missing, duplicate, or incorrectly recorded transactions and research discrepancies.
  • Create labor distributions and job-cost coding with accuracy and prepare or coordinate cost transfers and reclassifications.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for payroll entries, reconciliations, and corrections.
  • Coordinate information and follow-up between Payroll, Accounting, Accounts Payable, and operational teams.
  • Assist with payroll-related month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Provide payroll accounting support for audits, reporting requests, and account analysis.
  • Assist with improving payroll accounting procedures, reports, and reconciliation processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to compare information from multiple reports and identify discrepancies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn and work within payroll, accounting, timekeeping, and job-costing systems.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with Payroll, Accounting, and operational teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee, payroll, banking, and financial information.
  • Ability to work independently, manage recurring deadlines, and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
  • Experience in Paylocity Preferred.

Required Experience & Education

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. (This is a Must)
  • Accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or office-management experience may be considered in place of formal education.
  • Two years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll accounting, office management, or a related role involving journal entries and account reconciliations. Experience with payroll-related accounting, job costing, or multi-entity accounting is preferred.
  • Payo.Org FPC or CPP Preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
