Job Description

Full Stack Engineer II

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Full Stack Engineer II based in Canada.

We are looking for a versatile Full Stack Engineer to develop and enhance a modern workforce management platform that simplifies HR, payroll, scheduling, and time tracking for businesses. In this hands-on role, you will build features across web, mobile, and backend systems, contributing directly to products that help organizations operate more efficiently. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and AI-focused teams to deliver intuitive user experiences and reliable, scalable solutions. Working with technologies such as React, React Native, JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP, and Node.js, you will help modernize existing systems while introducing new capabilities. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving practical problems, writing high-quality code, and continuously improving software performance. Join a collaborative, growth-oriented engineering environment where innovation, professional development, and meaningful contributions are valued.

Accountabilities
  • Full Stack Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain features across frontend applications, backend services, mobile experiences, and supporting infrastructure using a range of modern technologies.
  • Frontend Engineering: Build responsive, intuitive web interfaces using React and related technologies, ensuring accessibility, usability, and consistent performance across devices.
  • Mobile Application Development: Develop and enhance mobile applications using React Native or similar cross-platform frameworks, ensuring seamless integration with backend services and reliable user experiences.
  • Backend Development: Implement and maintain backend services using PHP and associated frameworks, Node.js, RESTful APIs, and microservices to support core platform functionality.
  • Database Management: Design and improve database schemas, integrations, and queries to maintain data integrity, optimize performance, and support scalable application development.
  • System Modernization: Contribute to the incremental modernization of existing systems, improving maintainability, reliability, and technical efficiency while minimizing disruption.
  • Performance and Reliability: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across frontend, mobile, and backend systems while balancing production support with the delivery of new features.
  • Quality and Testing: Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, contributing to unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices and supporting reliable CI/CD workflows.
  • Security and Scalability: Apply engineering best practices to ensure applications and services remain secure, performant, and capable of supporting business growth.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, designers, and AI teams to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and engaging user experiences.
  • Code Reviews and Knowledge Sharing: Participate in code reviews, share technical knowledge, and collaborate with teammates to improve engineering standards and development practices.
  • Continuous Learning and Innovation: Stay informed about emerging frameworks, development tools, AI-assisted coding solutions, and industry best practices to improve productivity and software quality.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: 3–5 years of professional experience in full stack software development, with a demonstrated ability to deliver production-ready applications and features.
  • Frontend Technologies: Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience using React, React Native, or related modern web and cross-platform mobile frameworks.
  • Backend Development: Proficiency in PHP or an equivalent backend technology, with experience using frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, or similar solutions.
  • API and Service Architecture: A solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and the integration of frontend and mobile applications with backend services.
  • Database Knowledge: Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design, data management, and performance optimization.
  • Mobile Development: Familiarity with mobile-specific development considerations, including app store deployments, push notifications, and integration with backend systems.
  • Testing and Delivery: Understanding of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, as well as CI/CD pipelines and practices that support reliable software releases.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure is an asset.
  • AI-Assisted Development: Proficiency with modern AI-powered development tools, such as Claude Code, and an interest in using them to improve engineering efficiency and code quality.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product, design, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: A practical, analytical approach to troubleshooting, debugging, and delivering solutions to real-world business challenges.
  • Ownership and Adaptability: A willingness to take responsibility for hands-on implementation, learn new technologies, and gradually expand technical ownership as experience grows. This is an individual contributor role rather than a position primarily focused on architectural leadership.
  • Motivation and Impact: A genuine interest in building technology that simplifies business operations and improves people's working lives.

Bonus Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with mobile analytics tools such as Firebase, LogRocket, or Mixpanel.
  • Familiarity with workforce management, human resources compliance, scheduling, or payroll systems.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for web and mobile applications.
Benefits
  • Competitive Compensation: Annual salary ranging from CA$90,000 to CA$130,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Remote-First Flexibility: Work remotely from eligible locations across Canada, with the option to work from a downtown Vancouver office.
  • Collaborative Team Environment: Join a dedicated, supportive team that values effective collaboration, technical excellence, and meaningful contributions.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities to strengthen technical expertise, expand responsibilities, and grow professionally and personally.
  • Career Growth: A role with scope to take on increasing ownership and contribute to the evolution of products, systems, and engineering practices.
  • Meaningful Work: Build software that helps businesses simplify workforce management and enables people to focus on the work they value.
  • Inclusive Workplace: Work in an environment that celebrates diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives and promotes equal opportunity.
  • Accessibility Support: Reasonable accommodations are available upon request throughout the recruitment and selection process.
