Position Title: Director of PMO
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of PMO is responsible for leading the execution of the company's highest-priority strategic initiatives across the enterprise. Reporting to the VP of IT, this leadership role partners with Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and IT to drive alignment, accountability, and successful delivery of key business initiatives.
This is a highly collaborative, hands-on leadership position that goes beyond traditional program management. The Director of PMO brings structure to complex initiatives, facilitates cross-functional decision-making, and drives clarity in ambiguous environments. Success in this role requires the ability to quickly establish priorities, define outcomes, remove obstacles, and mobilize teams to execute strategic objectives.
The Director of PMO will establish and lead enterprise project management frameworks, governance processes, and execution cadences to ensure initiatives are well-defined, appropriately resourced, and delivered on time. This leader will champion operational excellence, foster organizational alignment, and continuously improve how strategic initiatives are planned, executed, and measured to maximize business impact.
LOCATION
Onsite in Fort Wayne, IN
PTR is prioritizing candidates located in or willing to relocate to the Fort Wayne, IN market. However, exceptional remote candidates whose experience strongly aligns with the requirements of the role may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
COMPENSATION
This position offers a competitive compensation package, benchmarked to regional market standards. It consists of a base salary plus the opportunity for quarterly profit sharing after one year of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Initiative Execution (Primary Focus):
Translate enterprise priorities into executable plans by defining scope, outcomes, milestones, and success metrics. Lead the structuring of initiatives that may begin with incomplete input, creating clarity, alignment, and forward momentum across stakeholders. - Facilitation & Alignment Leadership:
Proactively facilitate cross-functional conversations to define direction, align stakeholders, and drive decisions. Guide leaders through ambiguityensuring initiatives are shaped, prioritized, and actionable rather than waiting for fully formed plans. - Change Management & Adoption (Elevated Priority):
Lead change management planning and execution across strategic initiatives. Ensure leaders and teams are prepared, aligned, and supported to adopt new processes, systems, and ways of working. Embed change management practices into all major initiatives. - Enterprise Coordination & Ownership:
Partner across all business functions to ensure alignment, accountability, and progress. Act as the central point of orchestration across initiatives to drive enterprise-wide execution. - Project Management Framework & Governance:
Establish and enforce consistent methods for scoping, planning, prioritization, execution, and tracking across all initiatives. Implement disciplined governance and execution standards. - Structured Planning & Resourcing:
Develop detailed road maps, manage dependencies, and assess resource needs across initiatives. Ensure appropriate allocation and alignment of resources to strategic priorities. - Execution Rhythm & Delivery Cadence:
Own and lead execution cadences including standups, sprint planning, and weekly reviews. Maintain consistent momentum and quickly surface and address blockers. - Roadblock Management & Problem Solving:
Anticipate risks and proactively resolve issues impacting delivery using structured problem-solving and escalation when necessary. - Executive Communication:
Provide concise, decision-ready updates to executive leadership, including initiative status, risks, tradeoffs, and required actions. - Metrics & Performance Tracking:
Define and track KPIs and initiative health metrics. Provide transparency into progress, throughput, and business impact. - Progress Reviews & Continuous Reprioritization:
Conduct regular performance reviews across initiatives, adjusting priorities, resources, and plans to manage critical path risks. - Process Improvement:
Continuously improve execution workflows, delivery methods, and PMO standards to increase efficiency and predictability. - Strategic Alignment:
Ensure all initiatives are aligned to enterprise priorities and deliver measurable business value.
REQUIREMENTS
MUST HAVE
- Bachelors degree in business administration, Project Management, or a related field.
- Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- 5+ years of experience leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives with a proven track record of successful delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, align, and drive results across teams without direct authority.
- Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills with the ability to bring clarity and direction in ambiguous environments.
- Experience leading organizational change management and driving adoption of new processes, systems, or initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and portfolio execution.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and executive-level presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Azure DevOps, Monday.com) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Results-driven with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience in industrial equipment, fleet, manufacturing, rental, logistics, or other asset-intensive industries.
- Experience establishing or maturing a Project Management Office (PMO) and implementing governance frameworks.
- Certification in Agile, Scrum, Lean, Six Sigma, or Prosci Change Management.
- Experience with enterprise portfolio management (PPM) tools and resource planning.
- Masters degree in business administration (MBA), Project Management, or a related field.
