General Maintenance Person in EDISON, New Jersey at TOWNSHIP OF EDISON

DESCRIPTION:Under supervision, has the ability to perform, diagnose and repair varied simple and moderately physically strenuous tasks involved in the maintenance of the interior and exterior of buildings and grounds associated with Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry; other related duties as assigned. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday. Hours of operation vary by department and are set by contract. Overtime schedules vary with weather and special events. Must we willing to work overtime when directed. RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS:• Erects simple forms, mixes cement and aggregates, pours same, and does the finishing work involved in concrete structures.• Patches and repairs brick and concrete structures.• Repairs damaged plastered walls and ceilings.• Spackles, and paints interior and exterior metal, wood, and masonry surfaces.• Repairs plumbing stoppages and repairs leaks in copper, soil, and iron pipe.• Replaces washers and gaskets and makes general service repairs.• Does general sheet metal work involved in repairing roofs, drain boards, and rainspouts.• Replaces light bulbs, fuses, wall plates, fixture cords, and switches.• Changes lubricants, refuels, and does light maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.• Cleans tools and equipment.• Keeps simple records.• Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.• May preform any task in a lower title.Must be available to work for prolonged periods and/or overtime during emergencies such as snowstorms and other related assignments and remain on the job until all repairs have been made.Have general experience of and be able to drive and operate snow plowing equipment. Including but not limited to hydraulic actuated plow blades mounted to various truck bodies.
