TRAINING SPECIALIST - Ship's Self-Defense Air Defense Warfare Coordinator (SSDS ADWC) Trainer
MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
Develops, organizes and conducts Combat Systems and Operations training programs for personnel at SCSTC Det SW. Capable of conducting conventional knowledge-based classroom instruction and performance/scenario-based shipboard laboratory training. As a Training Specialist Principal, the candidate would serve as a Senior Instructor to train officers and sailors in tactical employment of SSDS combat systems and associated weapons and sensor systems with relation to Air Defense. Have a strong background in SSDS capabilities and limitations, benefits and risks to automating defensive systems, threat-centric mission planning, tactical communication as well as execution of pre-planned responses. When required, the candidate would provide subject matter expertise in support of curriculum development for SCSTC courses supporting the operational employment of SSDS
1. Provides dynamic teaching & training as well as assessment that require advanced knowledge of U.S. Navy Aegis and SSDS Combat Systems Capabilities and Limitations.
2. Uses SSDS-specific simulation software, tools and procedures to review and analyze U.S. Navy SSDS capabilities and limitations with reference to current U.S. Navy operational and tactical guidance; conceptualizes and integrates the employment of defensive systems using engagement doctrine within SSDS Combat Systems' abilities in a dynamic operational tactical environment.
3. Conducts dynamic assessment of the sailors' abilities to comply with approved maintenance, operational procedures, and ship's Battle Orders and thereafter provides formal appraisal of performance with recommendations for improvement and methods to maintain technical and tactical proficiency.
4. Observes and assesses contemporaries during practice and certification topic/lab teaches as well as NETC semi-annual and annual evaluations per requirements NAVEDTRA 135.
5. Prepares, reviews and customizes curriculum lesson plans and instructor guides in support of traditional classroom teaching.
6. Supports course reviews and curriculum updates by periodically conducting training gap analysis and providing formal feedback and recommendations for course improvement.
7. Documents the training conducted with specifics of the individual areas / watch station and is responsible for generation of a formal assessment of measure of success via written report.
8. Develops, tests, maintains and delivers advanced tactical scenario-based SSDS training programs and related materials in support of SCSTC training objectives.
9. Establishes and reviews course content and objectives, Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training activities.
10. Maintains records of training activities, participant progress and program effectiveness.
11. Maintains knowledge of relevant and current U.S., allied and adversary technologies/tactical guidance, collaborates with external stakeholders and provides instructor leadership and mentoring as required.
Primary classroom instruction and SSDS Advanced Warfare Training as an ADWC. Additional trainer support required to act as the Air and Missile Defense Warfare Commander in scenario lab-based environments.
Candidate will be required to support multi-shift work as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work/military experience.
Qualifications:
Seven (7) years of experience all facets of combat systems tactical employment to include the management of combat systems and/or operations dept personnel, planning and direction of Navy Surface, Air and Subsurface Warfare mission requirements, and Command and Control of shipboard combat operations. Of the seven years, one (1) year of experience as an Instructor/Trainer/Evaluator in a Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE), to include curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and the results of instruction and counseling students on academic learning problems. Experience with SSDS training simulators [e.g. Battle Force Tactical Trainer (BFTT), SSDS Training Stimulator Simulator System (TSSS), Battle Force Electronic Warfare Trainer (BEWT)/Surface Electronic Warfare Team Trainer (SEWTT) and Afloat Training Domain (ATD)].
Experience as a qualified ADWC in support of shipboard Combat Systems Training Team (CSTT) or shore-based instructor with Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC - formerly the Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS)), Aegis Training and Readiness Center (ATRC), Tactical Training Group (TACTRAGRU) Pacific or Atlantic or Afloat Training Group (ATG) is a significant plus.
Master/Afloat Training Specialist (MTS/ATS) Qualification preferred.
Must be able to support training with extended periods on your feet while instructing.
Travel may be required up to 20% of the time.
Must be in physical condition to support training onboard U.S. Navy ships.

The likely salary range for this position is $93,662 - $115,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
