What You’ll Do
As a PICU Registered Nurse, you'll provide expert, compassionate care to critically ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents in a fast-paced pediatric intensive care environment. You'll continuously assess patients, respond to rapidly changing conditions, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver advanced, evidence-based treatment. You'll also support and educate families throughout their child's hospitalization, advocate for exceptional patient outcomes, and help create a safe, family-centered environment during some of their most challenging moments
PICU RN Job Responsibilities

Deliver specialized, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents, safely performing complex clinical procedures in accordance with evidence-based practice and professional standards.

Prioritize patient care based on rapidly changing clinical conditions, patient acuity, family needs, and unit resources in a fast-paced critical care environment.

Continuously assess patients for signs of clinical deterioration, recognize subtle changes in condition, and initiate timely interventions to stabilize critically ill pediatric patients.

Utilize sound clinical judgment and evidence-based protocols to manage complex patient care while maintaining accountability for nursing decisions and delegated responsibilities.

Collaborate with pediatric intensivists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary care teams to coordinate comprehensive treatment plans and ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate individualized plans of care that address the medical, developmental, emotional, psychosocial, and family-centered needs of critically ill pediatric patients.

Monitor patient responses to advanced therapies and life-support interventions, modifying care plans as needed to promote recovery, safety, and continuity of care.

Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of patient assessments, interventions, medication administration, and clinical outcomes in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, providing education, emotional support, and timely updates throughout the patient's hospitalization.

Delegate patient care activities appropriately to support staff while maintaining accountability for care quality, patient safety, and adherence to established standards.

Serve as a clinical resource and mentor by supporting the orientation, education, and professional development of new nurses and other team members.

Advocate for critically ill children and their families by promoting family-centered care, participating in shared decision-making, and ensuring patients receive compassionate, equitable, and developmentally appropriate care.

Demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and professionalism during high-pressure situations, contributing to quality improvement initiatives, patient safety efforts, and a collaborative PICU culture.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing program and RN license in the state of Indiana

Within 5 years of employment as an RN, obtain a BSN or certification in your area of specialty
