The Assistant Director, Career Development & Pre-Law Advising is responsible for the counseling and coaching of Villanova students and recent alumni on career decisions, job search strategies, and graduate/law school preparation. This individual will lead the Career Center’s services, programs, and events designed to support students pursuing law school and other graduate study and serve as the pre-law advisor for the University. The Assistant Director will collaborate with campus partners to develop community-focused career initiatives, programs and services to support a variety of student populations. This role will develop partnerships with faculty and staff across the university to deliver presentations and programming, create and plan events, and enhance career education and pre-law opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Career/Pre-Law Counseling and Coaching
Counsel and coach students and recent alumni in all areas of career and professional development, including major exploration, successful strategies for seeking jobs and internships, developing application materials (resumes/CVs, cover letters), and practice interviews. Advise students interested in pursuing law school and other graduate programs, including guidance for writing personal statements, resumes, cover letters, and other application materials. Educate and coach students through individual appointments, drop-in hours, group presentations, and virtual resources/training.

Career/Pre-Law Programming and Events
Develop and support university career events (networking, panels, career fairs, classroom presentations, etc.). Create and deliver programs, events, and workshops for students and alumni interested in pursuing law school and other graduate study (i.e. Law School Fair, Pre-Law Workshop Series, Grad School 101). Coordinate programs and services with student organizations such as the Pre-Law Society, Pre-Law Black Students Association, and Mock Trial.

Campus and Community Engagement
Build relationships and manage engagement/outreach for specific career communities by serving as liaison to assigned student populations and campus partners. Develop and maintain relationships with law school admissions and pre-law professionals to provide relevant and timely advice to students and alumni on the law school process, including development of print and web resources. Maintain engagement with faculty and staff to promote services and support programming needs. Represent the Career Center on campus committees and with off-campus consortia, including Northeast Regional Pre-Law Advisors (NAPLA) and LSAC.

Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
  • Master’s degree required. Combination of a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience, in addition to the experience requirements listed below, may be considered in lieu of graduate level degree.

Work Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in education, human resources, communication, non-profit, or related field. Work experience may include graduate assistantships and internships.
  • Event coordination and programming experience.

  • Collaboration and relationship management skills.
  • Strong digital fluency with collaboration tools (Outlook, Teams, Zoom) and the ability to adapt to and effectively use new and emerging technologies, including AI tools.
  • Knowledge of employment and career services management software preferred (i.e. Handshake).

Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Understanding of student career development process, current job market trends, and hiring/graduate admissions processes – especially as it relates to undergraduate student populations

Other:
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal Education
  • Master’s degree in areas of Counseling, Higher Education, or Human Resources preferred.
Specific Job Knowledge(e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)

Salary Posting Information:
This position falls within salaried grade 14 and the range for this position is $57,200-71,500. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
