The Department of Counseling and Behavioral Health at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time staff member to serve as a mental health clinician and to direct counseling services provided at School of Health and Rehabilitation Science’s (SHRS) Wellness Pavilion.

We are seeking an Assistant Director of Community Counseling Services to offer clinical mental health counseling services to residents of the Homewood and other areas served by the University of Pittsburgh. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Counseling and Behavioral Health or designee.

The Assistant Director of Community Counseling Services will be embedded at the SHRS Wellness Pavilion, located in Homewood. The SHRS Wellness Pavilion offers the residents of the community a variety of student-led healthcare and educational services to foster health and well-being. The successful candidate will deliver counseling services, oversee clinical operations, supervise graduate students, participate in community engagement activities, and drive quality-improvement initiatives that advance patient outcomes and community health. This clinician will guide our graduate students in the principles and practice of high-value, patient-centered care.

The Assistant Director of Community Counseling Services will also provide services through our partner organization, Primary Care Health Services (PCHS). This staff member will regularly interact with faculty and staff from the University of Pittsburgh's clinical mental health counseling program regarding student training.

This position is housed within the University of Pittsburgh, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS), Department of Counseling and Behavioral Health.

The Department of Counseling and Behavioral Health offers personalized, experiential training for future professional counselors and prepares graduates to address complex challenges faced by individuals across cultures, across the lifespan, and living with disabilities and behavioral health conditions. The department emphasizes evidence-based practice, clinical research, community engagement, advocacy, and a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural humility.

The Assistant Director of Community Counseling Services provides leadership and operational oversight at the SHRS Wellness Pavilion, delivering mental health counseling and operational oversight at the SHRS Wellness Pavilion, delivering mental health counseling and behavioral health services, supervising University of Pittsburgh clinical mental health counseling students, community engagement activities, and providing services through our partner PCHS. The role involves conducting clinical assessments, developing and implementing individualized therapy programs, coordinating services across multiple stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with clinical, regulatory, and documentation standards. The incumbent will also serve as a key liaison with external partners including community organizations, referral sources, and other service organizations. There may be opportunities to become engaged in community engaged clinical research.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

-Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or a related field.
-Licensure or licensure-eligibility in Pennsylvania: Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or licensed psychologist.
-Minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience.
-Strong background in evidence-based clinical intervention, assessment, and service provision for individuals with mental/behavioral health challenges.
-Experience providing individual, family, couples, and/or group counseling/psychotherapy.
-Demonstrated ability to conduct clinical assessment, case conceptualization, and functional intervention.
-Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
-Ability to manage multiple priorities and supervise graduate students.
-Ability to maintain confidential records and comply with ethical and legal standards.
-Strong cultural awareness/humility/competence and awareness of the influence of social determinants of health.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

-Clinical supervisory experience.


Job Summary

Contributes to the development of strategic goals and plans for clinical services. Assists with human resource actions. Identifies funding opportunities and prepares grant proposals. Conducts clinical therapy services as directed.


Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

-Provide leadership and supervision to graduate students delivering counseling services.

-Manage daily operations of the SHRS Wellness Pavilion behavioral health programs including service coordination, referral screening, and scheduling.

-Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized intervention and treatment plans.

-Ensure quality assurance and adherence to clinical protocols and documentation standards.

-Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff, clinical mental health professionals, and external partners.

-Maintain clinical documentation, data tracking, and be familiar with utilizing Electronic Medical records (e.g. Medent).

-Support program outreach, training, and community engagement related to counseling services.

This is an in-person position located at the SHRS Wellness Pavilion in the Homewood community of Pittsburgh, PA. Daily presence at the Wellness Pavilion or PCHS is required.
