This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Quality Assurance Analyst, Credit Risk – Analyste en assurance qualité, risque de crédit based in Canada.
This role sits at the intersection of mortgage underwriting, quality assurance, fraud prevention, and credit risk management. You will review mortgage applications before and after funding to ensure compliance with underwriting standards, internal policies, insurer guidelines, and regulatory requirements. The position plays an important role in identifying anomalies, suspicious activity, documentation concerns, and potential sources of financial loss. You will conduct investigations, prepare detailed QA reports, and provide recommendations to underwriting and risk stakeholders. Working in a technology-enabled mortgage environment, you will collaborate with internal teams, insurers, investors, and external partners. - Review a daily sample of mortgage applications before and after funding to verify compliance with underwriting standards, internal policies, insurer requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Assess application data, financial documentation, client information, broker and insurer submissions, and legal documentation to identify discrepancies or policy deviations.
- Identify unusual behavioural patterns, suspicious transactions, potential misrepresentation, and document validity concerns using internal referrals and external insurer alerts.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into suspicious files and take appropriate action to reduce fraud exposure, credit losses, and other financial risks.
- Prepare comprehensive quality assurance reports documenting findings, irregularities, risk observations, and recommendations.
- Perform additional analysis and investigations as requested by Risk or Quality Assurance leadership.
- Support audits conducted with partners, investors, and insurers, from preparation through to the resolution of findings.
- Assist with the management, periodic review, and quality control of approved lists covering appraisers, solicitors, brokers, vendors, and anti-money-laundering (AML) resources.
- Execute quality assurance and quality control reviews consistently, objectively, efficiently, and within required timelines.
- Provide guidance, opinions, and recommendations to underwriting teams and stakeholders regarding credit risks, loss mitigation, flood and property risks, and potential training opportunities.
- Identify trends and recurring issues within underwriting practices and contribute insights that can strengthen controls, processes, and risk management.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in mortgage or lending adjudication, underwriting, or a closely related credit function.
- Experience working within the mortgage broker channel is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage insurer requirements, internal and external underwriting guidelines, fraud indicators, detection methodologies, and risk mitigation practices.
- Strong analytical, investigative, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to recognize trends, patterns, anomalies, and inconsistencies in mortgage files.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, exercise sound judgment, prioritize urgent matters, and make difficult or unpopular recommendations when necessary.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and SharePoint, as well as Google Workspace applications such as Drive, Sheets, and Docs.
- Experience working with CRM and workflow platforms such as Salesforce.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and risk concerns to management and underwriting teams.
- Fluency in both English and French is preferred to support stakeholders and clients across Canada.
- Strong attention to detail, professional integrity, objectivity, and discretion when handling sensitive financial and client information.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with underwriting, risk, quality assurance, insurers, investors, brokers, and other external partners.
