This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on credit quality, risk mitigation, and the integrity of mortgage operations.

Accountabilities:
  • Review a daily sample of mortgage applications before and after funding to verify compliance with underwriting standards, internal policies, insurer requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Assess application data, financial documentation, client information, broker and insurer submissions, and legal documentation to identify discrepancies or policy deviations.
  • Identify unusual behavioural patterns, suspicious transactions, potential misrepresentation, and document validity concerns using internal referrals and external insurer alerts.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations into suspicious files and take appropriate action to reduce fraud exposure, credit losses, and other financial risks.
  • Prepare comprehensive quality assurance reports documenting findings, irregularities, risk observations, and recommendations.
  • Perform additional analysis and investigations as requested by Risk or Quality Assurance leadership.
  • Support audits conducted with partners, investors, and insurers, from preparation through to the resolution of findings.
  • Assist with the management, periodic review, and quality control of approved lists covering appraisers, solicitors, brokers, vendors, and anti-money-laundering (AML) resources.
  • Execute quality assurance and quality control reviews consistently, objectively, efficiently, and within required timelines.
  • Provide guidance, opinions, and recommendations to underwriting teams and stakeholders regarding credit risks, loss mitigation, flood and property risks, and potential training opportunities.
  • Identify trends and recurring issues within underwriting practices and contribute insights that can strengthen controls, processes, and risk management.
Requirements:
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in mortgage or lending adjudication, underwriting, or a closely related credit function.
  • Experience working within the mortgage broker channel is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage insurer requirements, internal and external underwriting guidelines, fraud indicators, detection methodologies, and risk mitigation practices.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to recognize trends, patterns, anomalies, and inconsistencies in mortgage files.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, exercise sound judgment, prioritize urgent matters, and make difficult or unpopular recommendations when necessary.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and SharePoint, as well as Google Workspace applications such as Drive, Sheets, and Docs.
  • Experience working with CRM and workflow platforms such as Salesforce.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and risk concerns to management and underwriting teams.
  • Fluency in both English and French is preferred to support stakeholders and clients across Canada.
  • Strong attention to detail, professional integrity, objectivity, and discretion when handling sensitive financial and client information.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with underwriting, risk, quality assurance, insurers, investors, brokers, and other external partners.
Benefits:
  • Competitive employee mortgage program with preferential rates.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 100% coverage for eligible medications.
  • Unlimited access to telemedicine and mental health services for employees and their families.
  • Group retirement savings program with competitive employer matching contributions.
  • 4 weeks of paid vacation.
  • Flexible working environment with the option to work fully remotely or from offices in locations including Montréal, Québec, and Toronto.
  • Access to the tools and technology needed to perform effectively in a modern, technology-enabled mortgage environment.
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in mortgage technology, lending, credit, and risk.
  • Inclusive workplace committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
