Job Description

Department: Paint & Final Inspection

Team: 3rd Shift (11:50pm-8am Sunday-Thursday)

Grade: FLS

Reports To: Department Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Final Inspection Front Line Supervisor (FLS) provides direct leadership for 3rd-shift Final Inspection operations. This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and consistent inspection and release of finished product in accordance with customer, quality, and production requirements. The FLS directs associates, maintains workflow, responds to quality concerns, communicates shift performance, and supports the department supervisor in meeting safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people-development objectives.

Because this role leads 3rd shift and reports to the 1st-shift department supervisor, timely and complete shift handoffs are an essential responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

(includes but is not limited to the following)

Shift Leadership & Communication

  • Lead and direct 3rd-shift Final Inspection associates to achieve daily safety, quality, delivery, and productivity expectations.
  • Assign work, balance staffing, coordinate breaks, and adjust resources as production needs change.
  • Conduct start-of-shift communication and maintain an effective handoff with the 1st-shift department supervisor, including staffing, quality concerns, downtime, holds, rework, and unfinished priorities.
  • Escalate significant safety, quality, equipment, attendance, or production concerns promptly through the established chain of command.
  • Maintain accurate shift documentation and provide clear updates on departmental performance and follow-up items.

Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Promote a safety-first work environment and enforce company safety rules, PPE requirements, ergonomic practices, and safe material-handling procedures.
  • Address unsafe conditions or behaviors immediately and participate in incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure work areas, aisles, inspection stations, and material flow are maintained in a clean and orderly condition consistent with 5S expectations.

Quality & Final Inspection Control

  • Ensure finished product is inspected consistently to established cosmetic, dimensional, functional, packaging, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Verify that inspectors follow work instructions, visual standards, control plans, boundary samples, and required inspection frequencies.
  • Respond to suspected defects, initiate containment or product holds as authorized, preserve traceability, and promptly notify Quality and department leadership.
  • Monitor defect, scrap, rework, and audit trends; support root-cause investigation and corrective-action follow-up.
  • Ensure nonconforming product is clearly identified, segregated, documented, and dispositioned in accordance with company procedures.

Production & Process Management

  • Monitor production flow through Final Inspection to prevent bottlenecks and support customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate with Paint, Production, Quality, Maintenance, Shipping, and other departments to resolve issues affecting inspection or product release.
  • Monitor equipment and inspection-station readiness; report downtime and follow up on maintenance needs.
  • Use available production and quality data to identify gaps and support continuous improvement activities.

People Leadership & Development

  • Train, coach, and develop associates on inspection standards, standard work, safety, quality, and department expectations.
  • Verify training effectiveness and support cross-training to maintain adequate shift coverage.
  • Monitor attendance, conduct, and performance; document concerns and apply company policies consistently in coordination with the department supervisor and Associate Relations.
  • Promote respectful communication, teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.

POSITION SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of final inspection methods, cosmetic standards, defect identification, product traceability, and nonconforming-product controls
  • Ability to lead associates, set priorities, coach performance, and make timely decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including cross-shift handoffs and escalation of safety or quality issues
  • Ability to read and apply work instructions, quality standards, control plans, production schedules, and basic performance data
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, conflict-resolution, and follow-through skills
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to complete required production, quality, attendance, and training records
