Associate Software Engineer
About Acron Aviation (Avionics Surveillance):
Acron Aviation designs, engineers, and manufactures certified avionics systems that support safety-critical flight operations across commercial and military aviation. Within Avionics, the Surveillance product line develops and sustains systems that enable aircraft awareness, collision avoidance, and airspace interoperability. Our portfolio includes TCAS, Mode S transponders, ADS-B, and integrated surveillance solutions deployed across commercial, military, and rotorcraft platforms. This work is performed in highly regulated environments and demands deep expertise across systems, hardware, software, and RF throughout the full product lifecycle.
As an Associate Embedded Software Engineer Surveillance, you will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for developing, integrating, testing, and certifying embedded real-time software used in airborne avionics systems.
Working under the guidance of experienced software engineering leaders and technical mentors, you will participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, software design, coding, integration, verification, and certification activities. You will collaborate with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Test Engineering, Project Engineering, and Program Management to deliver safety-critical software that complies with FAA and international certification standards.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for engineers looking to build expertise in embedded systems, avionics, real-time software development, and DO-178C certification processes while working on products deployed across the global aviation industry.
Key Responsibilities- Develop embedded real-time software for TCAS, ADS-B, Mode S Transponder, and related surveillance products.
- Implement software functionality using the C programming language within embedded and real-time operating system environments.
- Participate in software design, coding, debugging, integration, and problem resolution activities.
- Support software maintenance, enhancement, and feature development initiatives.
- Integrate software with hardware platforms and system-level components.
- Develop and execute software unit tests, integration tests, and verification activities.
- Investigate software defects and support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Support hardware/software integration and troubleshooting efforts in both laboratory and product environments.
- Contribute to software development activities performed in accordance with DO-178B/C certification objectives.
- Support requirements traceability, software design documentation, verification evidence, and other lifecycle artifacts required for certification.
- Participate in technical reviews.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 0 - 2 years of experience developing embedded or real-time software applications.
- Proficiency with the C programming language.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- This position requires access to export-controlled information. Applicants must be a U.S. Person as defined by U.S. export control regulations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
- Experience developing software for embedded systems or avionics applications.
- Familiarity with DO-178B or DO-178C software development processes.
- Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as Green Hills, VxWorks, or CentOS.
- Experience using source control and configuration management tools including Git, Bitbucket, ClearCase, or Subversion.
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS.
- Understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
- Exposure to DevOps, Continuous Integration (CI), and automated testing practices.
- Experience with software verification, software integration, or system testing activities.
- Knowledge of networking protocols, communication interfaces, or embedded hardware architectures.
- Experience working within aerospace, defense, transportation, medical device, or other regulated industries.
