PHP Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a PHP Developer based in Spain.

This role is focused on building and maintaining a high-performance backend platform powering scalable digital products in a modern cloud environment. You will work with PHP and Laravel to design robust, maintainable services that support complex, high-traffic systems. The position involves close collaboration with frontend, product, and design teams to deliver end-to-end features with real business impact. You will contribute to architectural decisions, improving system structure, and ensuring long-term scalability. The environment values clean code, strong engineering practices, and continuous improvement. It is a fully remote setup aligned with CET working hours, within a fast-moving and international team. This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging backend problems while shaping the evolution of a large-scale platform.

Accountabilities:
  • Develop and maintain a high-performance backend platform using PHP 8.2+ and Laravel 11, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability across core systems.
  • Design and evolve backend architecture using layered structures, repository patterns, and service providers to support complex application flows.
  • Build secure and efficient APIs using middleware, FormRequests, and modern validation practices to ensure system integrity.
  • Write, maintain, and improve automated test suites using PHPUnit, Mockery, and TDD practices to guarantee platform stability.
  • Collaborate with frontend, product, and design teams to deliver integrated end-to-end features across the product ecosystem.
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and cloud infrastructure workflows in AWS and Bitbucket environments.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize application performance, including database tuning in PostgreSQL/MySQL and production issue resolution.

Requirements:

  • Strong professional experience with PHP and Laravel (modern versions), building production-grade backend systems.
  • Solid understanding of backend architecture principles, including layered design, service providers, and repository patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including optimization and indexing strategies.
  • Strong expertise in testing practices, including PHPUnit, Mockery, TDD, and test automation frameworks.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, Bitbucket workflows, and AWS-based deployments.
  • Familiarity with modern PHP tooling such as Pint, PHP-CS-Fixer, and Laravel Sail (Docker-based environments).
  • Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams, and experience working in complex codebases.
  • Nice to have: exposure to event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ), observability tools, iGaming/Fintech environments, Golang, and AI/LLM integrations.

Benefits:

  • Fully remote position with flexible collaboration in a CET-aligned schedule.
  • 28 days of paid time off plus public holidays.
  • Opportunity to work on a high-scale, technically complex platform with real impact.
  • International and collaborative work environment with diverse engineering teams.
  • Strong culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Exposure to modern backend architectures, cloud infrastructure, and advanced engineering practices.
  • Long-term growth opportunities in a fast-scaling global product company.
