Position Summary

Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit provides compassionate, evidence based care to critically ill adult patients using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

The ICU RN is responsible for managing complex patient conditions, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, educating patients and families, and delivering high quality care in a fast paced critical care environment. This role requires strong clinical judgment, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to respond quickly to changing patient conditions.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit

Perform ongoing patient assessments and recognize changes in patient condition

Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care

Administer medications, treatments, and advanced therapies safely and accurately

Monitor cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic status, and other critical patient data

Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care

Educate patients and families throughout the hospitalization process

Delegate and supervise appropriate patient care activities to support staff

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record

Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff members as appropriate

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education opportunities

Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.

Licensure and Certification

Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required.

Basic Life Support certification required.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification required within 90 days of hire for experienced nurses or within six months for new graduate nurses.

Experience

Medical Surgical and Critical Care or ICU experience preferred.

New graduate nurses with a strong interest in critical care are encouraged to apply.
