Sterling Infrastructure is looking for an experienced Senior Internal Auditor to join our team in The Woodlands. This is a great opportunity for an audit professional who wants to move beyond checking boxes and have a meaningful role in strengthening the processes and controls of a growing, publicly traded organization.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Assurance, you’ll support Sterling’s SOX compliance program while also working across financial, operational, and compliance audits. You’ll partner directly with teams throughout Finance and Operations, gaining exposure to different areas of the business and helping identify practical ways to improve controls and mitigate risk.

What You’ll Do

1. Perform SOX walkthroughs and test the design and operating effectiveness of key controls
2. Execute financial, operational, and compliance audits
3. Partner with process and control owners to identify risk and develop practical remediation plans
4. Support the annual internal audit risk assessment and audit plan
5. Prepare clear audit documentation, findings, and recommendations
6. Track identified deficiencies and remediation efforts
7. Coordinate with external auditors as needed for SOX reliance testing and financial statement audit matters

What You Bring

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
2. 2+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, SOX compliance, public accounting, or a related field
3. Strong knowledge of SOX/ICFR, COSO, and internal audit standards
4. Ability to understand business processes and evaluate their financial and operational impact
5. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
6. Ability to work independently while building strong relationships across the organization
7. CPA, CIA, or other IIA certification preferred
8. Experience with AuditBoard, Workiva, or similar audit management tools is a plus
9. Willingness to travel up to 25%
