Ocala Recruitment is recruiting for a senior support worker on behalf of our client, a well-established not-for-profit residential respite service for adults with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs in Sudbury.

The Role

The Senior Support Worker will assist with all day-to-day operations of our client’s inclusive respite service, ensuring Care plans and behaviour management strategies are implemented consistently by the staff team for the duration of the shift that they lead.

You will ensure care plans and behaviour management strategies are implemented consistently by the staff team for the duration of the shift. You will play a key role in monitoring care to ensure each young person receives personalised support that promotes independence, choice, dignity, and wellbeing.

As part of this role you will work closely with the support team, reporting to the Registered Manager and Care Co-ordinator, working flexibly and participating in the on-call rota equivalent to one weekend a month.

Location and hours

This is an in-person, full-time, permanent role located at the client’s short breaks service in Sudbury.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support staff through effective delegation, role modelling, and promoting teamwork.

  • Ensure care plans, assessments, behavioural strategies, and therapeutic programmes are implemented, monitored, recorded, and kept up to date and accurate.

  • Prepare reports and participate in review meetings as required.

  • Organise shifts and workloads effectively, using shift planners to record tasks, handovers, calls, and activities.

  • Provide person-centred support tailored to individual needs, helping young people develop practical, personal, and social skills to reach their potential.

  • Ensure medication is administered and recorded accurately, including MARs, PRN medication, antibiotics, and reporting concerns to the Manager.

  • Act in accordance with relevant legislation, company policies and best practices.

  • Undertake key worker responsibilities for allocated young people, identifying opportunities to improve support for individual service users.

  • Support recruitment and selection activities, including participating in interviews when required.

  • Ensure financial transaction records are completed and signed by parents/carers where required and receipts are retained for all expenditure.

  • Contribute to the maintenance and management of household and personal resources, maintaining stock, equipment, and materials, supporting the efficient use of resources and adherence to agreed budgets.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and the ongoing review of service standards.

  • Recognise and report concerns affecting service users or the team, including conflict, health, or wellbeing issues in line with organisational procedures

  • Prepare meals and assist with domestic duties as part of planned care and to support service users.

  • Attend all mandatory training required to fulfil the role.

Essential requirements

  • A highly personable individual, skilled with written, telephone and verbal communication

  • Proactive, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual

  • Experience working with individuals with autism, learning disabilities, and complex health needs.

  • Ability to work well under pressure, assess different situations and make decisions appropriately considering the interests of those involved

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and care standards.

  • Enhanced DBS check/ willingness to complete prior to commencement of work

  • Right to work in the UK

  • Full and clean driving licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable

  • NVQ in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)

  • Previous experience in a senior support worker, team leader, or supervisory role within health or social care.

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

  • A sound understanding of person-centred care, safeguarding, positive behaviour support, and risk management.

  • The ability to build positive relationships with families, professionals, and colleagues.

  • Confidence using electronic care management systems and maintaining accurate records.

  • A flexible, positive, and solution-focused approach.
