Job Description

About the role

Magris Talc is one of the world’s leading talc producers, and our Penhorwood site located in Northern Ontario, between Foleyet and Timmins as part of our Canadian operations. We’re looking for a Process Engineer to join our team - someone who thrives on using data to drive real results and isn’t afraid to get hands-on to get there.

Reporting to the Mill Manager, you’ll be responsible for optimizing the performance of our talc grinding and flotation circuits, troubleshooting process issues, and supporting operations and maintenance in hitting production and quality targets. Strong analytical thinking, a solid grounding in mineral processing, and a continuous improvement mindset are keys to success in this role.

What you’ll do

  • Monitor and analyze daily plant performance data across all mill circuits; identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve recovery, throughput, and product quality
  • Develop and maintain mass balances and process flow models for mill circuits; optimize reagent usage, grinding media consumption, and energy efficiency
  • Provide technical guidance to operations and maintenance teams on process-related issues
  • Conduct sampling campaigns, metallurgical test work, and performance audits
  • Support process control strategies including instrumentation, data analytics, and automation improvements
  • Lead or support capital and process improvement projects; prepare project justifications and coordinate completion through in-house staff and/or contractors
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and FMEA investigations for process upsets or quality deviations
  • Compile and present project data and management reports to keep leadership updated on critical activity
  • Maintain accurate documentation of process changes, SOPs, and test results
  • Provide guidance and training to operators and supervisors, and support shutdown activities
  • Champion HSEQ compliance in everything you do

What you bring

Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, materials engineering, chemical engineering, or a related mineral processing discipline

  • 1–5 years of relevant experience in mineral processing or mining
  • Practical knowledge of mineral processing techniques — froth flotation, magnetic separation, crushing and grinding
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a genuine desire to work hands-on
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft suite
  • Familiarity with Pi, HMI, Factory Talk, Minitab, or CAD is an asset; project management experience is a plus

What we offer

  • Comprehensive benefits package, employer paid
  • Pension offerings
  • A 4/10 schedule (3 day weekends)
  • Employee assistance program (EAP) and access to Personify Health, a personal wellness and rewards platform
  • Travel allowance and remote pay
  • A chance to make a real impact - as a smaller, tight-knit company, your contributions are visible and meaningful, and you’ll work alongside a highly skilled team that takes pride in what they do
