Job Description
Position Description: Little Island is seeking enthusiastic and energetic individuals to join our Usher Corps Program. Reporting to the House Manager, with oversight by the Manager of Workforce Development, Ushers play a vital role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and hospitable environment for our visitors and audience members. Ushers perform front-of-house duties for performances and serve as ambassadors of Little Island, supporting audience services, venue operations, and public safety while helping to shape a positive and memorable visitor experience.
In addition to their responsibilities, Ushers will participate in weekly professional development workshops and neighborhood excursions that explore New York City’s public art and public spaces. These experiences are designed around five key themes: Leadership, Financial Capability, Public Art, Public Space, and Communication.
The Usher Corps Program combines paid, hands-on customer service experience with structured professional development in arts and public space operations.
We’re looking for individuals who are:
• Passionate about interacting with people and fostering community
• Have an interest in the arts and public spaces
• Thrive in a collaborative and team-oriented environment
• Are comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Speaking multiple languages (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, American Sign Language, etc.) is a plus
Preferred Qualifications- Preferred applicants meet the following criteria:
• 18-24 years of age
• Currently enrolled in a CUNY program, or
• Recent graduate (within the past two years) from a CUNY program, or
• Alumnus of a Little Island Workforce Development Program
About the Role
• Hourly Rate: $18.50
• Job Type: Temporary
• Employment Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
• Schedule Expectations: At least 12 to 20 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and select early afternoons (primarily Tuesday-Sunday)
• Work Environment: Onsite, park-based role
• Onboarding Dates: July 6 -7, 2026
• Training Dates: Week of July 13, 2026
• Regular Hours Begin: Week of July 27, 2026
• End Date: September 13, 2026

What You’ll Do
• Support front-of-house operations in all park performance spaces including The Amph, The Glade and The Play Ground.
• Greet and direct audience members, manage seating, and address visitor inquiries or issues as they arise.
• Support seating of special guests, artists and reserved spaces with sensitivity and discretion as needed.
• Share programming details and encourage engagement with Little Island’s art and performances.
• Monitor the performance venues and surrounding areas to ensure compliance with safety policies and venue guidelines, reporting concerns promptly to supervisors.
• Educate visitors on park and production rules and safety, including evacuation procedures.
• Ensure assigned sections remain clean and perform light trash clearing as needed.
• Attend regular pre-event usher meetings and trainings.
• Participate in workshops, field trips, supervisor check-ins, and other learning opportunities centered on leadership, financial literacy, and public spaces.
• Assist with additional tasks as assigned by the House Manager or Manager of Workforce Development.
What You Bring
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse audience and teammates.
• A strong sense of hospitality and a passion for fostering meaningful visitor experiences.
• Ability to remain calm and focused in fast-paced environments.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, climb stairs repeatedly, and work in varying environmental conditions, including light rain, heat, and direct sunlight.
• Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and lift or transport equipment weighing 30-40 lbs.
• Multilingual language abilities are a plus.
• Possession of an F04 Fireguard Certification is a plus but not required.
• Eligibility to work in the U.S.

• Park employees will spend time onsite at Little Island working in outdoor weather conditions, navigating the entire park multiple times a day, and interacting with park visitors to ensure operations are running effectively.
