JOB SUMMARY FOR TECH:
The technician will work under the general and direct supervision of the physical therapists. This individual will provide receptionist, secretarial, clerical, and housekeeping duties for the department with minimal supervision or independently. This individual will assist physical therapists in selected procedures as necessary, and perform other duties as requested.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answering and managing calls to the department.
- Schedule patient appointments and meeting for the staff
- Prepare and maintain patient charts
- Relay all patient charge slips, admission information and chart materials to business office, medical records, and any other department as necessary.
- Assist physical therapists and patients as needed in preparing for, during, and following treatments.
- Provides specific treatment only as directed by the staff physical therapist.
- Adheres to standard of physical medicine practice for pediatric, adolescents, and geriatric patients and the general patient population
- Communicates any changes in condition (physical or mental) to staff physical therapist, nursing and other facility personnel as appropriate.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations
JOB SUMMARY FOR OFFICE:
This position is under the general and direct supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation. They are responsible for organizing and managing the clerical, receptionist and secretarial duties of the Rehabilitation Department. This individual helps to ensure that the tech duties are being performed in an efficient manner. They will assist the techs as needed throughout the workday to ensure optimal operation and efficiency of the Rehabilitation Department.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answering and managing calls to the department
- Scheduling of patient appointments and monitoring of schedule book to help ensure accuracy of appointment and meetings. Communication with nursing staff to ensure that therapist receives updated order of inpatient therapies in a timely fashion.
- Prepare and maintain patient charts
- Make sure paperwork is complete with account numbers and all paperwork is in the same order in each individual’s chart.
- Monitor and track Medicare charts needed for each day’s patient visits.
- Setting up new charts for initial visits
- Daily/weekly monitoring of charts for organization, completion of forms, doctor’s orders and Medicare Certification.
- Monitor and track doctor’s prescription to ensure that orders are current.
- Processing workers compensation and insurance carriers request for records.
- Ensure all information needed for therapist to dictate initial visit is presented in the chart by end of initial visit if possible.
- Ensure that dictated initial visits and progress notes/letters are returned from transcription and filed in charts in a timely fashion.
- Ensure completion of charge slips by each therapist for all patients seen that day.
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE: None necessary, but previous with patient care preferable.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL MOTOR SKILLS: Be able to read, write, spell and speak English fluently. Typing and computer skills (word-processing and spreadsheets, etc.) Good phone etiquette.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Good communication skills with people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds, and throughout all age ranges. Must be able to follow written and oral directions, be organized and efficient, be self-motivated, and have a positive attitude.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Moderate to heavy physical exertion required that includes: lifting, bending, and working with individuals of varying degrees of disability or impairment.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: May be exposed to muscular string in lifting, moving, or assisting patients. May be exposed to possible repetitive use or cumulative trauma injuries. Conditions of the work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and on the job injuries.
OTHER: Must be available and reliable Monday through Friday and able to work 8-hour days with flexible scheduling of hours depending on department’s needs.
