Job Summary
Southend Pharmacy is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Nonsterile Pharmacist Lead. The Nonsterile Pharmacist Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the nonsterile compounding lab and ensuring accurate preparation and timely delivery of compounded nonsterile preparation in compliance with USP <795>, USP <800>, state and federal regulations, and internal standard operating procedures (SOPs). This role provides leadership to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff while ensuring safety, efficiency, and accuracy in a compounding environment. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will directly impact on the safety and well-being of our patients.
Please note that this evening shift schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM; however, hours may be adjusted based on business needs, and flexibility in availability is expected to support teams and operational demands.
Key Responsibilities
Compounding Oversight
Oversee the preparation of non-sterile compounded preparations in accordance with USP <795> and USP <800> guidelines and internal SOPs for nonsterile compounding
Review master formulations, batch records, perform in process checks and final verification of compounded nonsterile preparations, and ensure accurate and timely prescription fulfillment
Ensure documentation of batch records, batch releases, cleaning, and other related nonsterile compounding processes are complete and accurate
Serve as a point of contact for troubleshooting compounding related issues
Leadership & Supervision
Lead, train, and mentor pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff in compounding procedures, documentation, and best practices
Manage workflow and assign daily tasks to ensure timely turnaround goals
Serve as acting pharmacy leader when the Pharmacy Manager is unavailable
Conduct competency assessments and provide ongoing performance feedback for nonsterile personnel
Quality & Compliance
Maintain compliance with USP <795>, USP <800>, state board of pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements (as applicable), and company policies
Perform quality control on compounded preparations and assist with any nonsterile compounding related investigations
Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SOPs
Assist with audits, inspections, and regulatory visits as needed
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with R&D, operational teams, clinical teams, and internal departments to ensure seamless compounding and dispensing operations
Identify and support workflow improvements and SOP adherence
Communicate operational needs, risks, and updates to leadership promptly
What We Require
Doctorate of Pharmacy degree (PharmD)
Active, unrestricted Pharmacist License in good standing
Minimum 3 to 5 years of pharmacist experience in a compounding pharmacy (503A required)
Demonstrated knowledge of USP <795> and USP <800> guidelines and nonsterile non-hazardous and hazardous compounding operations
Preferred Requirement(s)
Prior leadership, supervisory, or management experience
Experience in high-volume or complex nonsterile compounding operations
