This role is designed for a highly experienced Ecology subject matter expert who is passionate about scientific publishing and advancing research communication. You will oversee the end-to-end peer review process for scholarly journal content, ensuring the integrity, quality, and relevance of published research. Acting as both an editorial decision-maker and scientific expert, you will independently manage manuscripts, guide peer review, and make publication decisions aligned with journal standards. The position requires close collaboration with Editors-in-Chief, authors, reviewers, and internal editorial teams in a global publishing environment. You will also contribute to shaping journal strategy, commissioning high-impact content, and strengthening relationships within the scientific community. This is a highly autonomous role where your expertise directly influences the quality and direction of academic knowledge dissemination.
- Manage the full editorial lifecycle of submitted manuscripts, including screening for quality, relevance, scientific rigor, and alignment with journal scope.
- Make independent editorial decisions (accept, reject, revise, transfer) while ensuring adherence to publication ethics and journal policies.
- Coordinate the peer review process by selecting, inviting, and managing reviewers, and evaluating reviewer feedback to guide manuscript outcomes.
- Assess revised submissions and author rebuttals to ensure completeness, scientific validity, and compliance with editorial expectations.
- Identify opportunities for commissioned content and actively engage authors for review articles, special issues, and high-impact contributions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with researchers, authors, reviewers, and the broader scientific community to enhance journal visibility and submissions.
- Contribute to journal strategy, editorial board development, and process improvements in collaboration with Editors-in-Chief and internal teams.
- Monitor editorial performance metrics and support initiatives aimed at improving peer review efficiency and workflow quality.
- PhD or equivalent advanced degree in Ecology or a closely related field.
- Proven experience in academic publishing, editorial work, or manuscript peer review processes.
- Strong expertise in Ecology with the ability to evaluate complex scientific research critically and accurately.
- Deep understanding of publication ethics, peer review standards, and scholarly communication practices.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple manuscripts simultaneously.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including engagement with academic authors and reviewers.
- Experience in commissioning scientific content and contributing to journal development is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and a high level of scientific rigor.
