Job Title: Dining Services Supervisor

Department: Phoenix Dining Room

Reports To: Programs Manager

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the PDR Program Manager, the Dining Services Supervisors are responsible for all dining room operations. This includes maintaining a safe, welcoming and dignified environment, food safety, volunteer engagement and supervision, and guest-oriented programs. This representative must be energetic, resourceful, and reliable with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with vulnerable populations and individuals with diverse backgrounds and needs.

The Supervisor oversees all aspects of dining services and should take responsibility and initiative to make positive, appropriate improvements on an ongoing basis. This includes but is not limited to: meal service, special events, upkeep of facility, incident reports, supply orders, work orders, and helping to coordinate outside organizations to visit the dining room to offer service to our guests.

Collaboration with other PDR programs and Key Campus programs is an important part of this work.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily operations of dining room services, including meal preparation, serving, cleaning/closing, and dining room activities, overseeing a team of 5 to 45+ volunteers.
  • Supervise, encourage, empower, and appreciate volunteers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and providing necessary guidance and support.
  • Establish positive relationships with volunteers, fostering a collaborative and productive working environment. Embrace and promote SVdP’s Culture of Philanthropy and Culture of Invitation, ensuring volunteers feel valued and appreciated. Collaborate with Volunteer & Community Engagement teams to ensure appropriate volunteer needs can be met.
  • Interact with guests professionally, facilitating guest processes and programs. Utilize trauma-informed practices and de-escalation first; help guide volunteers in these practices.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations through regular inspections and maintenance of the dining facility. Monitor the facility for safety hazards and maintenance issues, reporting findings and initiating and following up with necessary repairs.
    1. Prepare for and ensure compliance with quarterly dining room inspections from Maricopa County Environmental Health Department and other regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with security staff to ensure safety of guests, staff, and volunteers.
  • Organize events, projects, and holiday parties.
  • Handle disputes and emergencies on the property professionally, taking appropriate action and contacting relevant authorities when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records such as inventory management, food ordering and receiving, incident reports, etc.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the kitchen, drivers, and other food services partners within and outside of SVdP.
  • Support guests in reaching goals and moving towards permanent housing. This includes:
    1. Collaborate with Workforce Development and Navigation staff.
    2. Oversee and coach guest volunteers; help them connect to needed resources to remove housing barriers.
    3. Utilize HMIS (Homeless Management Information System) and/or Uplift Database, following documentation standards.
    4. Make appropriate referrals within and outside of SVdP
    5. Remain knowledgeable about relevant service providers, resources, and programs, especially those close to the dining room
    6. Establish and maintain partnerships
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned. This may include housekeeping duties, including restroom cleaning, as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and agency events as requested or required
  • Collaborate with Development and Marketing teams; represent SVdP and its mission fully while giving media interviews and tours as appropriate and/or as assigned.
  • FOR PHOENIX DINING ROOM ONLY: Represent SVdP at Key Campus meetings; take action and report back as appropriate. Work in coordination with Key Campus partners to offer assistance when possible and participate in the larger goals of the Key Campus community.

Requirements & Experience:

Minimum Hiring Requirements / Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active food handler’s card
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift 50+ pounds
  • Food Services and CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days of hire
  • Communication: ability to read, comprehend, speak and write clearly in English
  • Ability to stay calm during emergencies
  • Basic computer skills, including navigating the internet, using Microsoft Outlook, ability to learn and use databases
  • Compassionate customer service and good teamwork

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • 2 Years experience working with volunteers
  • 2 Years experience working with homeless or other vulnerable populations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Supervisory experience in food handling
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Familiarity with operating industrial kitchen equipment such as dishwashers and laundry appliances.
  • Excellent communication, organization skills, and ability to interact with clients, staff, and volunteers
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs, and excellent electronic communication and documentation
  • Knowledge of available community support and services
  • Open to change, flexible, patient, friendly, accepts coaching, takes initiative, communicates directly.
