Overview

As a Main Propulsion Machinery Engineer, you will be responsible for project management and oversight of design, development, procurement, ship integration, test and repair and fleet support activities for components associated with fast-attack submarine classes.

Specific responsibilities will include component analysis (impacts to safety, cost, schedule, performance, operations, and maintenance), arrangement integration, and component development (design evolutions to meet new and/or evolving specifications). Frequent interface will be required with multiple Electric Boat engineering and support disciplines, vendors, Newport News Shipbuilding, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Shipyard Personnel (Trades) and Ship’s Force (active-duty Navy).

Skills:

  • The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, project management, oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidate must be detail oriented, highly motivated, be able to work independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment.
  • The individual should have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures.


Responsibilities

This position requires strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.



Qualifications

Required:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, marine, or equivalent engineering degree is required.
  • 0-1 years post-graduate engineering experience.

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in mechanical, marine, or an equivalent engineering field.
  • Experience working on marine propulsion systems and/or familiarity with engineering principles associated with rotating machinery.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple customers (internal and external to organization).
  • Experience in industrial/construction environment.
  • Project management experience.
  • CAD knowledge, including CATIA and/or NX.
