About This Position
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, the supervisor oversees the daily processes of Pastoral Care and provides spiritual care for patients, family members and associates. The supervisor contributes to the overall corporate objectives by providing leadership to the department, assisting with financial management and maintaining policies. The supervisor assists with faith issues in the healing process, provides crisis interventions and completes assessments.
Responsibilities:
- Provides positive leadership by an environment of teamwork, open communication and customer service.
- Responsible for human resources processes including interviewing and orientating staff, ongoing performance management and timekeeping/scheduling and required documentation.
- Assists with financial management by developing and maintaining budget, strives to keep operations within benchmarks and communicates variances.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Completes assessments of patient and family spiritual needs and assists then in using their faith in dealing with trauma, illness and stress.
- Completes decedent care protocols to assists families in using their faith to cope with death.
- Provides patient and family education regarding Advanced Directives.
- Offers pastoral services according to departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Completion of religious order of study, divinity degree or pastoral care studies
- Understanding of multicultural faith practices; and the ability to promote holistic health by ministering to individuals on an ecumenical and non-denominational basis, respecting and affirming all beliefs; and exemplifies Christian living.
- Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.
Preferred:
- Experience in pastoral care in a health care setting and spiritual counseling for patient and families.
- Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains or National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
Patient Interaction: Frequent
Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.
HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position at Hays Medical Center based on the following criteria:
Primary – required (routine) to do the job;
Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and
None – no approved access
