POSITION SUMMARY:
The supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the sterilization and high level disinfection of equipment outside of the Surgical Sterile Processing department. This person will travel to off-site locations to oversee the processes used in those locations. This includes departments in the hospital and offices located out of the hospital. The supervisor will have the authority to make immediate corrections if violations are found and hold staff responsible. The supervisor will oversee orientation of new staff, both in SSA and areas out of SSA to ensure when either sterilization or high level disinfection is taking place, all guidelines are followed. The supervisor will rotate into the areas frequently to ensure compliance is maintained.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High School Education or equivalent. 5 plus years of Sterile Processing experience required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Current Central Service Tech Certification (International Association of Health Care Central Service Materials Management - IAHCCSMM or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - CBSPD) required.
Current Instrument Specialist Certification (Certified Instrument Specialist - CIS Certification through IAHCCSMM or SPD Surgical Instrument Specialist - C.S.I.S Certification through CBSPD).
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Successful completion of annual job specific competencies and skill verification tools required. Knowledge of aseptic technique and standard precautions required. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, types of service specific cases scheduled, and basic medical terminology is required. Ability to use sterilization equipment is required. Ability to troubleshoot equipment failure is required. Ability to use information systems as it relates to Sterile Processing is required. Must have knowledge of Joint Commission standards as they pertain to sterilization. In addition must have knowledge of AAMI standards.
