Beacon Health System is currently sourcing candidates for an Unpaid Internship for the fall opportunity with Beacon Health System athletic trainers. As one of the region’s largest employers, an internship with Beacon will provide students the opportunity to gain practical experience in one of the region’s most respected healthcare organizations.
This is a temporary part-time position with a flexible schedule requiring between 10 to 20 hours a week.

About this opportunity
This position will rotate at 4 different locations (minimum) at which Beacon athletic trainers are deployed. This will include a rotation at Beacon Bone and Joint clinics, high schools, and college/university settings.
Required Skills and Experience
• Preferred candidates will be currently enrolled and / or completed coursework majoring in Health Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Rehab Science, Biomechanics, or a related field, and be interested in pursuing a career in sports medicine.
Knowledge & Skills
1. Requires knowledge of principles and practices of general first aid/CPR/AED use. (Should be certified in FA/CPR/AED)
2. Demonstrates proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and ability to learn and master new systems and software including an EMR.
3. Ability to multi-task under pressure and stay calm in stressful situations.
4. Requires the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact effectively and professionally with student-athletes, staff and outside contacts.
5. Requires the ability to pay close attention to details, work effectively with supervision, organize and prioritize multiple duties, provide support during emergency situations, and follow schedules.
6. Demonstrates the ability to ensure confidentiality and exhibits discretion and sound judgment in decisions and responses to questions and requests for information.
Working Conditions
1. Works in a school environment (indoors and outdoors).
2. Work is performed in a fast-paced environment requiring the ability to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The below statements are intended to describe the essential functions and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties performed by the personnel occupying this position.
1. Performs a variety of administrative and support related functions by:
• Assist the athletic teams with hydration.
• Assisting the certified athletic trainer with rehabilitation protocols.
• Assistant in maintaining and organizing the athletic training facility.
• Acting as communication liaisons between the student-athletes and the certified athletic trainer and/or coaches.
• Assist in record keeping.
• Assist in maintaining hygiene protocols.
• Assist in maintaining emergency equipment and other athletic training supplies
2. Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
• Assist with basic first aid.
• To maintain and learn athletic training skills.
• Assist in enforcing policies and being leaders.
• Assist with daily treatments to the student-athletes.
