Quality Specialist (QA/QC) - Environmental Laboratory at SOUTHERN PETROLEUM LABS – Houston, Texas

We’re seeking a detail-oriented Quality Specialist to support our environmental laboratory operations in Reading, PA.

In this role, you will help maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with ISO 17025, NELAC/TNI, and client requirements. You’ll work closely with laboratory and operations teams to support audits, corrective actions, data quality, and documentation processes in a regulated, high-throughput environment.

What You’ll Do

• Support and maintain the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 17025, NELAC/TNI, and internal standards
• Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation, participation, and follow-up actions
• Investigate and track non-conformances and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
• Review laboratory data, reports, and client deliverables to ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance
• Maintain and control quality documentation, including SOPs, method validations, and change records
• Support proficiency testing (PT) programs and interlaboratory comparisons
• Monitor instrument calibration, verification, and maintenance records
• Assist with statistical quality control (SQC), data trending, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Track and maintain training records and competency documentation
• Ensure all systems, records, and documentation remain audit-ready
• Collaborate with lab staff to reinforce quality procedures, GLP, and regulatory compliance
• Perform other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• 1+ year of professional experience in a laboratory quality assurance (QA) role OR 2 years of hands-on environmental laboratory experience
• Working knowledge of ISO 17025, NELAC/TNI, or similar regulatory frameworks
• Proficiency with Laboratory Quality Management Systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience supporting or managing quality documentation, audits, and CAPA processes strongly preferred
• Demonstrated ability to maintain and improve Quality Management Systems (QMS) in an accredited laboratory setting strongly preferred
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies, ensure data integrity, and support compliance initiatives

Schedule & Work Environment

• Full-time, onsite position following a standard Monday through Friday schedule
• Ability to work outside of scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed during audits or to meet certain reporting deadlines
